Of Mice and Men
By: John Steinbeck

John Steinbeck was borned in California 1902. He had a big dream as a youth to be a chemist. Unfortunally the dream was never to be true. John Steinbeck started his writing career with the book "Cup of Gold" in 1929. It wasn’t such a big success but anyhow John Steinbeck realized that authoring was to be his future job. In 1939 the book "The grapes of wrath" was published and soon it became one of John Steinbecks greatest success ever. He won the Pulitzer Prize for his great performance describing the life of a family who travels from Oklahoma to California by foot to start a new life and work on a fruit farm. The book "Of Mice and Men" was published in 1961 and it was also a big success for him and as a result he gained the Alfred Nobel literature prize in 1962.

The story of "Of Mice and Men" is about two rather boheam persons who travels all around southern USA to work on different farms. George, the name of the first man, is the "leading type". Lennie, the second man, is the total opposite to George. While George is thin, short smart and rap, Lennie is big, tall and a bit slow. However the reader soon realize that the two characters really get along and like each other. Sure some times, and not rarely, George tell Lennie how stupid he is and how nice his life would me without Lennie. But there is never any doubt that he loves Lennie and that it is just a temporary fit of rage. However, when the book begins George and Lennie is on their way to a new farm to get a job. They had a job before but the ting is that Lennie loves soft things including soft women dresses. He found one girl with a really soft dress witch he liked on that farm. However the woman who wore the dress didn’t want Lennie to touch her and asked him to let go of the dress. But Lennie didn’t understand, he only meant well. And this is how the story goes. Finally they lost their job and had to flee from the farm, hunted by the girl's man and his men. And here they are trying to get a new job and maybe some time in the future get their own farm witch they have dreamed of for several years.

This book is really about dreams and hope. George and Lennie's hole life circles around their dream of getting their own farm. But it isn’t always that easy. They have really bad luck and misfortune on their way to their own farm.
