The book is about a brothers trip to London to find the queen and cure his little brother, Luke, who has cancer. The whole family get influenced of his sickness and they really have to be strong to keep up their own joy for life.

The doctors have almost given up to cure Luke and just don''''t know what to do more . The strongest one in the family is Colin, Luke''''s big brother. Everyone thinks he don''''t understand how serious Lukes condition is, but he do. And he really fights to help his brother.

Colin got the idea to meet the queen from the TV. She had a Christmas-speech and she said she wanted a healthy and happy world and would strive for it. In the beginning he don''''t believe her but after a while he thinks she is his last hope to help his brother. She is not so easy to get in touch with as Colin thought so he sends her a letter. He thought anyone could meet her to get help and just walk in to the palace and visit her, but it isn''''t that easy, many things gets in his way so he decides to find a doctor on his own who can help him.
And without any help from grown-ups he and his friend search for a doctor in London.

In the end they finally finds a doctor specialized in cancer but he tells them that Lukes cancer has went to far and nothing can save him.

Comments

The story is quite touching. You can see the sick child in front of you when you read and feel the involved characters feelings. But I miss descriptions of the characters. I don''''t really get a picture of them.
At first I thought the text was hard to understand but after I had read some pages I understood more and more. If I would read the book again I think I would understand almost everything. I think it''''s very instructive to read books in English because that gives me a bigger vocabularity. The typically English words is hard to understand.
I don''''t like the ending because you don''''t really understand what will happen with Luke but I guess he doesn''''t have a long time left.

I think the parents is doing wrong to Colin. Instead of sending him away from home so he got away from the problems at home they should tell him what was really going on. I don''''t know how old Colin is but problaby old enought to understand since he looked after a doctor or the queen on his own in London.

The book never gets boring, it''''s always happening something. You just keep on reading because you want to know if he will ever meet the queen and get help.
When he meets the cancer expert Dr Graham you can finally see hope, just like Colin does. But that goes away when he tells that Lukes life can''''t be saved.
"Luke can''''t be cured.
His body has stopped working.
His mind has stopped working." (p.92)

I understand what feelings Colin get when he hear that.

But I can say it''''s a book in my taste even if I didn''''t thought so in the beginning.

The author

Morris Gleitzman lives in Melbourne and has two children. Before he start writing books he was a film and television writer for ABC. He''''s now one of the best-selling children''''s books author in Australia.

Morris Gleitzman has written this book and I think he has really succeed with the book. You can almost think he has been through this himself since he really gets the feelings to show and he seem to know how parents often do when it''''s problem at home, send the children away and don''''t tell them what''''s going on.

Morris has also written more books like; "Totally wicked" and "Water Wings". He has also written a book called "Once" which is built up of real life stories. I have only read this book, Two weeks with the queen, of him. Maybe I''''ll read more books of him now. He''''s actually a children''''s book author but I thin...
