Introductin

This paper is about geocashing. Geocaching is an idealistic global organizatiation that started 3 may 2000 in the US. A geocache is a box hidden somewhere in the world. In order to find the box you have to use the coordinates and a GPS. The box contents are usually a logbook, a pen and some trinkets and plastic figures.



Data and methods

On order to geocache you will need a GPS(global positioning system). The GPS looks like a bigger mobile phone. Nowadays it is very common that people have them in cars.
The GPS receives microwave signals from satellites in space. The GPS must receive signals from at least four different satellites to work. With these signals the GPS is able to determinate its location, local time etc. Geocachers use the GPS function that on a map shows where the GPS and programmed geocache is located. When the cacher is out looking for the geocache the GPS shows how far away the cash is and in some cases how many minutes away it is located. When the cacher is getting closer to the cash the little dot on the GPS that symbolizes the GPS is moving closer. So it is just like a more developed map.

Discussion

I think that a GPS is an exellent way to explore places you have never been. You can registrate where you have been and when. Another positive thing is that everyone can use it and it’s reaching all over the world. But a GPS isn’t very cheap. A good GPS costs about 2000 kr. Not everyone can afford it.

Conclusion

Geocaching is a good sport that should be practised buy more people. It is expensive but fun and you visit places you have never been.
