Review: Tom Clancy’s Politika
The book I have read is called “Politika” and is written by the well-known author Tom Clancy. The book begins with the sudden death of Russian president Boris Jeltsin, caused by a combination of Vodka and Aspirin and more Vodka… His absence leaves a grand hole to fill up in order to maintain a stable politic state of the country of Russia. Three men fights to gain the power, and this starts a power struggle that takes place from the heart of Moscow to the Chinese border and a plot is beginning to form in the hallways of Kreml.
Its just a few minutes left until midnight on January 31:st in New York and millions of people has gathered on Times Square to celebrate the upcoming millennium. But a terrorist group controlled by one of the presidential candidates in Russia destroys the happiness and laughter and replaces it with grief and tears when they detonate four devastating bombs, all placed where they harm the most people. Thousands dies and even more are injured for life. What was going to be a happy moment becomes a public mourner. Among others, the mayor of New York City dies, and so does the wife of police chief Bill Harrison, who decides to get to the bottom of this case and catch the perpetrator or perpetrators if it’s going to be the last thing he ever does.
The successful businessman Roger Jordan’s wife has just left him and the sorrow gets even worse when he finds out about the Big Apple bombing. Since his company has branches all around the world he has some major resources in manpower. Gordian also has a special command whose task is to preserve the safety on earth and eliminate the crooks who can possibly pose a threat to his communication company.
Many people want to nail the guilty Russians, and the evidence leads directly to them. After some unsuccessful operations in the Turkish desert, all of the involved are heading to a cabin in the woods. The bad guys, lead by a female terrorist, is going to kill the employer of evil Arkady Pedachen’s main threat, the other politician Vladimir Starinov. Gladly Roger Gordian’s attack team has gotten knowledge of this and some action scenes predictably ends the book.
My opinion:
I love the United States of America in all possible ways, so when I saw the cover of Politika I decided to read it. Maybe I should’ve paid a little more attention to the blurb, because frankly the book was really a disappointment. Most of the 380 pages are filled out with needless descriptions and introductions of to the story unimportant characters, and not many blasting and thrilling parts like in the films based on Tom Clancy books that I have seen. Politika is based on a computer game, not vice versa as I thought before reading the book and I am definitely not eager to play the game now, even if I think that was the purpose with the book. There is nothing wrong with the author’s usage of language, sometimes it is brilliant, here’s an excerpt from one of the final pages (364);
“The world was still put there in its imperfect beauty. It was still turning on its axis, and it would continue to do so, no...
