The aim of this essay is to describe and analyse the experiences of adults growing up with alcohol abusing parents and how their adult life have been affected by this fact. The questions dealt with were as follow: - How does parent alcohol abuse affect the every day life of children and young people? - What survival strategies do children of alcohol abusing parents develop? - In what way does the fact of growing up with alcohol abusing parents affect children and young people emotionally? - What are the consequences of the alcohol abuse on parents' ability of raising a child, and how does this affect the children's conception of their parents? - What is the importance of the outside family network for children of alcohol abusing parents? - How do children of alcohol abusing parents experience the contribution of the society that is being performed for their sake? - How does the fact of growing up with alcohol abusing parents affect the persons' adult lives? The essay is composed by theoretical and empirical studies. Data has been gathered by using a semistructured interview as a method. Ten interviews were realised. Object relations theory and Salutogene perspective were used to analyse the gathered data. The results agree to a large extent with previous research within this area.
