Sexual risk-taking among teenagers has rapidly increased and only during the last decade the existence of Chlamydia has more than tripled. The future is facing big challenges to cope with the problem. Though the big efforts made on preventive work, Chlamydia continues to spread.
The study aims to examine the existing attitudes towards sexual risk-taking among teenagers. The central mode of procedure is to use qualitative focus group interviews, and is complemented with a quantitative survey. A total of 30 teenagers, 15 boys and 15 girls, age 16-20, are participating from three different high schools in Gothenburg. The questions of formulation concern the differences between the sexes involving love, sexuality and risks. The study is also focused on the use of condoms, communication, Internet and future prevention. The study also enlightens subjects who the teenagers proposed, like alcohol, school related matters and the Swedish Youth Centre (“Ungdomsmottagningen”).
The main result in this study shows that teenagers have an acceptance to sex without love involved. Teenagers are very aware of the risks that they are taking and see´s mainly pregnancy as the biggest consequence. It shows though that Chlamydia is not being taken seriously in the same amount. There exists an idea that Chlamydia is “easy to get rid of”. Often urge and excitement is in charge over sense. The use of condom is shown to be quite rare in sexual relations. Far less than half of them states that they are using condoms in sexual relations today.
Further on the result indicates that it is difficult to communicate about sex with their partner.
