”The Mists of Avalon” is a film about the legendary King Arthur. It’s a very well-known story, but the film is quite different from every other film made about this period in the English history.
The plot takes place in the old Britain just when the Christianity started to get a hold on the British people. At this point Morgaine, King Arthur’s sister and priestess of Avalon, begins to affect the story. In all Britain she tries to keep people believe in the goddess, who was the religion and ruled the country before Christ arrived. With her knowledge of herbs and spells Morgaine tries to complete hers and Britain’s fate.

The film is based on a novel with the same name by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Despite this the film doesn’t bring the book justice. There has been too much change on the characters and the plot is far from the same. The film is however, like the book, a fascinating story that contains almost everything such as love, hatred, violence and witchcraft.
I believe that this film is a great piece of work and you can feel the magic it contains. The music is magnificent and tells a second story together with the film itself. The war between the two different religions are intense and without no doubt worth seeing. The fact that the focus lies upon the women around the throne makes it even better. I read the book before I saw the movie and that gives me both advantages and disadvantages. I can easily follow the plot, but on the other hand I miss larger and important parts of the books. I also find the actors too much unlike the characters I built up in my mind by reading the book.
