I have read the book “The Beach”. The authors name is Alex Garland. The book is written from a movie. I don’t like the idea that someone writes a book from a movie. I think it’s excellent that someone do a book to a movie. The genre of the book is adventure. I thought the book wouldn’t bee good, because the books in school are so lame.

The plot: (it should have been short but I thought I could do it medium)

The book takes place in Thailand in 1996. The title of the book is obviously the right one.

The book is a about a dude/man that makes a trip to Thailand. The dudes name is Richard and he is from England. He is looking for adventures but he thinks it’s boring in Thailand but a night he heard a man screaming outside his hotel room something about he is getting killed and a bitch, but after a wile the dude realize that the man is screaming beach and not bitch.
The man has his room next to the dude and the quality of the room is not good, it’s a big hole in the wall so the man start talking with the dude from the hole. He describes a beautiful beach and his words sound so perfect to the dude.

The day after he finds a map that shows the way to this marvelous beach, but when he looks in the hole between the rooms he sees that the man is dead. He contacts the police and tells them everything except the map. In the police station he starts to talk with a French couple from the same hotel that has been called up for questioning. The woman is beautiful the dude thinks but she has a boyfriend so it’s hand off.

Somehow he tells them about this beautiful beach and they decide to go there. But the island the beach is on is restricted area. They get on a tourist boat to a hotel island and from there they plan to swim. The night on the hotel island the dude meets two Americans guys and they start chatting and smoke some pot. When they are all stoned the dude tell them about the beach and after a wile ha realize how stupid he was that he told them.

The day after the French couple and the dude start to swim for the beach but the dude had done a map that he left to the American guys. On the map he left he wrote, “if we haven’t returned in a few days come to the beach” They arrived to the beach but I can’t tell you more.

The characters/environment:

Richard: He is a good-looking man. He is about 27 years old. He likes adventures. He is a special traveler. He goes to weird places to see new things and get some experience. The book is writhen out of his prospective. So he don’t describe him self. I can’t even remember him describe someone else then the beautiful French women. He is a very good swimmer.

Françoise: Is Étienne girlfriend. Richard thinks she is the most attractive woman in the world. But she smokes cigarettes and joints. She is the best swimmer of all the peoples on the Beach.

Étienne: Is Françoise boyfriend. Don’t smoke cigarettes but he smokes joints. Speaks English very good.

As I told you before he doesn’t describe anyone good. If the author would describe everyone good the book would be like 5 times thinker then it is now.

The environment: Everything is described perfectly. He makes it sound like the beach is paradise. If it’s half as nice as he describes it I would go immediately there. They se a enormous dope field and the hide as much they can I their pockets.

He describes the waterfalls, the sand, the trees and everything marvellous.

Language:

The language was easy but British English and that pisses me off. I am so used to American English and don’t get why they writes books in British. The language is not hard but it sounds so… Gay! I say line and they say queue. The book is new, so the language is not old. It’s very modern. I don’t think I learn some new words.

Analysis/review:

In a movie it’s hard to describe a feeling or a thought. But in some books the author can write about 20pages on a feeling or just a thought. But in a movie it’s almost impossible to describe a feeling. So when the author of “The Beach” saw the movie and did a book on it, it had to be hard. He couldn’t make the book to long because the book must be short retail on the movie, and it’s hard to write a long book without describing all the feelings every detail.

The book was to thin. But I think it’s hard to find a good book in English for me. I did go to the library but I couldn’t find a book that was good for me. I think it’s almost better if the teacher gives a book to everyone a force us to read it and let us discuss it.
