During the last decade, the construction industry has focused on improving
and optimising its production process. The construction industry is now
facing larger changes regarding efficiency in their supply chain for the
next decade. Many companies are now trying to optimise its supply chain
together with its supplier. JM AB, which is one of the biggest construction
companies in Sweden, is looking at different options to improve its own
logistics together with their suppliers. One option is to use a terminal
between JM and the suppliers to solve problems such as quality, custom
service and inventory for the in production.
This final thesis project aims to study which of JM¡¦s products that are
most suitable to go through a terminal. Interviews and literature studies
have been done to fulfil the aim of this project. The project has been
performed by doing a case study over the order process on JM. The case study
aimed to find the factors that caused inefficiency in the process and later
be able to examine the products that are the cause of critical factors. This
resulted in following critical factors:
?« Inventory time at the construction area
?« Low custom service
?« Low quality
?« Poor filled transports
?« The delivery is planned long before actual demand
These critical factors have then identified as performance indicators and
examined on a large amounts of constructions. This survey together with
theories resulted in following products.
?« Plasterboard
?« Plywood board
?« Kitchen
?« Isolating
?« Window bench
?« Bathroom
?« Cellplast
This study did not examine the whole product portfolio of JM and because of
that criteria for two product groups where created. The author recommends
splitting the terminal in these two types of relatio...
