This study shows how to plan a pond with an ecosystem which although it will have turtles living in it will not need to be cared. I will also demonstrate how this pond would be designed to work in the natural landscape on Mallorca.
The background to the study is that I am interested to investigate how plants that we in Sweden are using as indoor plants are growing in their natural landscape and how to build a land-scape with them. The study highlights different cleaning-systems that can be used to clean a pond in a natural way. A comparison will be made between the conditions of an exterminated turtle-species which will live in this environment and a species that is easier to care for. The target with this study was to see if it is possible to plan a space for this exterminated species in a way that it is able to work effectively in the natural landscape on Mallorca.
The method I used to determine this was to interview different people who were competent in the fields of turtles, natural-ponds and the plants on Mallorca. I did a literature study about Mallorca, natural pond-systems, and turtles and also made an inventory of the place and drove around Mallorca to study the profile, made a sketch-proposal and produced a report.
The outcome that my range of different research produced is:
1. It is difficult to make the place look part of the natural landscape because:
• the turtle is very sensitive to predators and therefore needs to be enclosed.
2. It is difficult to make the space in no need of artificial care and intervention because:
• the turtles eat the plants which need to be there to ensure that no weeds appear;
• the water quality is not good;
• the stone species is too porous making it easy for the bacterium to grow in the water.
It is possible that...
