The word crisis is often used in everyday language, but according to political theory it actually refers to a crisis situation within a country where national interests suddenly are at stake demanding that important and complex decisions must be made within certain time constraints. These decisions can in turn lead up to most fatal consequences. USA, being one of the world's superpowers is most certainly involved in crisis situations directly or indirectly, frequently or more seldom. Amounts of people get suddenly involved and even more people can be drawn in by the decisions that are made thereby. Research has shown that the character of a leader affects decision-making. In our bachelor thesis we focus upon studying four crises from the point of view that personality, leadership style and political experience of a leader during crisis also must certainly affect decision-making. To accomplish our aim/purpose we have used material from at first hand secondary literature. We define crisis associated to politics, decision-making in crisis, discuss the four presidents' personality, political experience and leadership style and also describe the four cases of crisis. The thesis is a comparative case study with four cases; The Pearl Harbor attacks 1941, the invasion of Bay of Pigs 1961, the hostage drama in Iran 1979-1981 and the terror attacks 11th of September 2001.
