2. Q: who did he say was the cause of all their evils, and what message did he wish to pass on to the animals before he died?

Ans: According to Old Major Man was the reason for their evils and the only way to turn it around is to get rid of Man.

3. Q: what question had to be settled before he could go on with his speech?

4. Q: what do the wild creatures, such as rats and rabbits, stand for?

6. Q: why did they suddenly have to break up the meeting?

Ans: because through their singing of “Beasts of England” they had awoken Mr. Jones who thought there was a fox and shot a few lose shots that wnt through the barn walls.

Chapter II

1. Q: describe the different characters of the three most prominent pigs.

Ans: Napoleon was a large, rather fiercelooking Berkshire boar, the only berkshire on he farm, not much of a talker, but with a reputation of getting his own way.
Snowball was a more vivacious pig than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive, but was not considered to have the same depth of character.
Squealer was a porker with very round cheeks, twinkling eyes, nimble movements and a shrill voice. He was a brilliant talker, and when he was arguing some difficult point he had a way of skipping from side to side and whisking his tail which was somehow very persuasive. The others said that he could turn black into white.

2. Q: how did most of the animals react to the new teachings? What stupid questions did Mollie ask, and why was she not quite satisfied with Snowballs answer?

Ans: most of the animals talked about their duty towards Mr.Jones, and that they would starve to death if he was gone.
Molli asked whether there would still be sugar after the Rebellion and whether she would still be allowed to wear ribbons in her hair. When Snowball said no she was dissapointed because she loved to be pampered and taken care of.

3. Q: what silly tales did Moses tell them about Sugarcandy Mountain? Why was he hated by many of the animals and especially the pigs?

Ans: Moses said that all dead animals came to Sugarcandy Mountain which was situated somewhere up in the sky, a little distance beyond the clouds. Here it was Sunday seven days a week, clover was in season all year round, and lump sugar and linseed cake grew on the hedges. Many animals hated him cause he told tales and didn’t work and the pigs hated him because they had to debate real hard againgst Moses to convince the other animals that all he says are lies.

4. Q: how did it happen that the rebellion came earlier and was more easily carried out than they had expected?

Ans: Mr.Jones had taken to drinking more than was good for him, fogetting to feed the animals and had started to neglect his daily chores. The animals had enough and started o behave as they pleased.

5. Q: how did they spend the first hours of their freedom?

Ans: the animals threw some of Mr.jones possesions down the well, some in the fire. They were singing and enjoying their freedom.

6. Q: what important matter had to be attended to before they began the hay harvest?

Ans: the pigs wanted to write the seven commandment on the wall of one of the barns.

7. Q: why did the three cows set up a loud lowing, and what happened to the milk?

Ans: the three cows had not been milked for twentyfour hours and their udders nearly bursting. The milk was gone when the animals came back from the hayfields.

Chapter III

1.why did it fall upon the pigs to organize the work and help the animals with all their difficulties with the tools and implements?

Ans: the superior knowledge that the pigs posessed made it naural that they should assume the leadership.

2. Q: why did they feel so happy in spite of all their hard work? What difference was there between their life now and in Mr.Jones time?

Ans: the animals now ate food that was produced by themselves for themselves. There was more food now that Man was kicked out.

3. Q: describe the solemn ceremony that preceded the Sunday Meetings.

Ans: breakfast was one hour later than usual, hoisting of the flag, the animals then trooped into the big barn for a general assembly which was known as the Meeting. The Meeting always ended with the singing of “Beasts of England”.

4. Q: who were the most active debaters at the Meetings? Why did the Wild Comrades’ Re- education Committee, like most of Snowball’s other projects, prove a complete failure? Why didn’t Napoleon take any interest in his plans?

Ans: Snowball and Napoleon were the two most active debaters at the Meetings. The Wild Comrades’ Re-education Committee was a failure because the wild animals bahaved as always and when being generous to took advantage of it. Napoleon said that the education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who had already grown up.

5. Q: how did the reading and writing classes turn out? How did Snowball solve the problem of the Seven Comandments when most of the animals seamed too stupid to learn them by heart?

Ans: the reading and writing classes were a success. By the autumn almost all the animals were literate in some degree. When it was found that the most stupid nimals could not memorise the seven comandments, snowball said “four legs good, two legs bad” to make it easier for the dumb.

6. Q: what special arrangements had Napoleon made for the nine sturdy puppies that Jessie and Bluebell hadgiven birth to?

Ans: as soon as the puppies were weaned, they were taken from their mothers and were kept in the harness-room and away till they were forgotten about.

7. Q: what explanation did Squealer give to the animals when they found out that the pigs had kept the milk and the windfalls to themselves?

Ans: Squealer said that most of the pigs actually disliked both milk and apples but that Science had proven that milk and apples contain substances absolutely necessary to the weel being of a pig. He also said that Jones would come back if the pigs failed to do their duty.

Chapter IV

2. Q: what was their first reaction when they heard of the rebellion on Animal Farm, and what made them change their tune later on?

Ans: at first they pretended to laugh to scorn the idea of animals managing a farm for themselves. The whole thing would be over in a fortnight, they said. They put it about that the animals on the Manor Farm (they insisted on calling it the Manor Farm; they would not tolerate the name “Animal Farm”) were perpetually fighting among themselves and were also rapidly starving to death. When time passed and the animals had evidently not starved to death, Frederick and Pilkington changed their tune and started to talk of the terrible wickedness that now flourished on Animal Farm.

3. Q: from what words in the text can it be concluded that the animals were more afraid of Mr.Jones and his men than of their neighbours? What historical event does this passage probably allude to?

Ans: “they were all carrying sticks, except Jones, who was marching ahead with a gun in his hands.” This represents the fighting at the Winter Palace in october 1917.

4. Q: how did they celebrate the victory and what was the official name given to the battle?

Ans: the flag was run up and “Beasts of England” was sung a number of times, then the sheep who had been killed was given a solemn funeral, a hawthorn bush being planted on her grave. At the graveside Snowball made a small speech, they gave “brass medals” to boxer, snowball and the dead sheep. The battle was officially called the Battle of the Cowshed. They found Mr. Jones’s gun and decided to set it up at the foot of the flagstaff and fire it twice a year.

Chapter V

1. Q: why did snowball want to build a windmill? Where did he get his ideas for its construction, and where did he work out his plans?

Ans: snowball wanted to build a windmill that could operate a dynamo and supply the farm with electricity. This would light the stalls and warm them in the winter etc. He got his ideas from some of Jones’s books; One Thousand Useful Things to Do About the House, Every Man His Own Bricklayer and Electricity for Biginners. He worked out his plans in a shed which had a smooth wooden floor, suitable for drawing on.

2. Q: what was napoleon’s arguments for opposing the whole project, and how did he demonstrate his contempt for snowball’s drawings?

Ans: napoleon said that snowball’s schemes would come to nothing, and seemed to be biding his time. He urinated over snowball’s plans.

3. Q: what different opinions did Napoleon and snowball hold of the defence of the farm?

Ans: according to napoleon, what the animals must do was to procure firearms and train themselves in the use of them. According to snowball, they must send out more and more pigeons and stir up rebellion among the animals on the other farms. The one argued that if they could not defend themselves they were bound to be conquered, the other argued that if rebellions happened everywhere they would have no need to defend thems...
