New trends regarding aftermarket concepts for JAS 39 Gripen

Different types of trends are making military industries around the world changing the way they are looking at logistic solutions. For example is it more common that maintenance of defined components is offered to a fixed price per flight hour. This development is one of the reasons why Saab Aerospace in Linköping has started to examine the possibilities to change their outlook on logistics solutions and aftermarket concepts. The purpose with the thesis is to examine the trends of new aftermarket solutions. The goal is to map the possibilities and difficulties that will occur if a change of the present system will come true. General theories, internal documents as well as articles on the Internet have been studied to get the information that has been used. Also personal meetings and visits have helped to get more detailed information about the situation. To get an extensive picture of the new logistics solutions many areas have been studied. The American market, Volvo Aero and Saab Aircraft have been examined. Furthermore, the Swedish customer's attitude towards a change has been described. The different trends that are described have been analysed and compared with theories about Supply Chain Management (SCM). The conclusion is that everything indicates that there will be a change of the present aftermarket concepts. How long it will take before these changes have been accomplished is much to Saab Aerospace to decide. This have lead to that Saab Aerospace is recommended to:

• Enlarge the work with FMV
• Cooperate closer within Industrigruppen JAS (IG JAS)
