Tennis is a really nice sport, it´s really fun to play and even watch on TV,
I´ll tell you something about my favorite player on tha WTAtour, Maria Sharapova. I like her because i think that she is a very good player.
Maria Sharapova was born in Siberia, Russia on 19 april, 1987. Her parents fled from Belarus to Russia a year before Maria was born to avoid radiation from Chernobyl. Today she lives in Florida.
Maria started to play tennis when she was 4 years old. Her parents wanted her to try alot of things like dancing, gymnastic and other sports, but she liked tennis most af all, so she started to play.She was really good so her her family took her too Moscow so she could play more. Her coach said that Maria was the best player he had ever seen. She was discovered by Martina Navratilova, while she was playing a small tournament when she was 6 years in Moscow. Martina recommended her Nick Bollerteri´s tennis academy in Florida. Maria and her father followed Martinas advice so they moved to Florida a couple of months later.
Maria had a really tough time, because she had to be away from her mother for two years, she couldn´t come with her because of visa restrucions and the family´s financial situation. It was really hard for her and her father to come to a new contry because they hadn´t alot of money.
At the age of seven, Maria started to play at the tennis academy, and her father had to work alot so he could pay for her training. She was the youngest player in the academy, and in the beginning, nobody belived that she could be a professional player. It was really hard for her and her father on the beginning, she couldn´t see him for almost one year.
But things got alot easier when she started to win a couple of tounaments, but it wasn´t easy for her anyway because jealous rivals bad-mounthed her all the time.
At the age of 14 Maria turned proffesional by winning an ITF tounament, and later she reached the final in Austalian Open Juniors.
She did the same in Wimbledon juniors.
She got better and better all the time and one year ago she won Wimbledon by beating Serena Willims. She was only 17 years old when that happend.
She was really happy when she won and she said that it was like a dream come true and that she always wanted to win Wimbledon but she never thought it will happen this year.
Offcourt, Maria likes fashion, dancing and singing. She works as a model too.
Today she´s 18 years and she´s ranked 3, but that´s because of a couple of injuries she had, she was ranked 2 and even 1, but hopefully, she´ll be nr. 1 soon again.
There are not so many professional players from sweden, Joachim Johansson ...
