Plot:

A pair of tough bankrobbers are making troubles in many different ways in Los Angeles and a police force with Vincent Hanna as front figure are the ones who is going to stop them.
It will soon turn out to a strong fight, physical and mental, between the hard cop Vincent Hanna and the leader Neil McCauley.

Soon they’re in a collision course with eachother and a settlement between Hanna and McCauley are unavoidable. How far will they go in their desperate fight? Can they handle the pressure, the heat?

Characters:

Vincent Hanna

He is a hard guy, tough and persistent. He’s experienced. He has been in the navy so he has the military experiences in his blood. He has a passionate interest in his work and he never drops a case, it’s almost like a drug to him, he’s addicted to it.
He has a wonderful humour with a perfect touch of irony.
He’s hard as a rock and he will always go all the way to get what he wants. He’s brain is amazing, he’s quick and impulsive – something that you’ve got to be in his profession.

I would say that he’s a mental catastrophe; it’s impossible for him to balance between his family life and his work. He realizes that he’s social life is almost dead and I think that that’s like adrenaline kick to him, that’s when he makes an all-out effort and kill McCauley. After that I hope that the relation with his wife will get better.

By the way – Pacino is hot! Oh my. He has some kind of charisma who makes him to a really attractive older man. Ohlala.

Neil McCauley

This is a very strange man. He has like two mental sides; I would almost think that he’s suffering from some kind of schizophrenia. Sometime he can be a heartless murderer, when he executes people and robber banks with a frightening precision. He doesn’t hesitate to take a few men, like a cold and heartless man. In another scene, he can act like a caring lover, a passionate man to his lady Eady.

I think that he ‘s having some kind of battle in his head, between his two different personalities. The problem for McCauley is his work. When you are robbing banks you’ve got to be ready to run off any minute. I don’t think that he’s ready to leave Eady, because he loves her too much.
But in the same time, he’ll never give up his profession. It’s a dilemma for him, and I don’t know if he can handle it. Maybe that’s the reason that he accepts the fight in the end of the movie, when Hanna kills him.

He’s sharp and quick, he has a brain that can be compared to Hanna’s. That’s another thing that makes “Heat” to a good movie. They have found great actors who are able to match eachother.

Mental Environment:

They are much the same, McCauley and Hanna. Their social/family life has many similarities. They’re working way too much, and they don’t care about their partners as much as they should do.

They are both wealthy. Hanna gets money by the criminals in L.A. and when he finds out about them he will search them and hunt them down. McCauley however, is one of these criminals in town, and he gets money by robbing banks and so on. So in one way you can say that they’re living on eachother, they are depending on eachother.

The thing with this movie is that it’s more than a bloody action movie with expensive action scenes. This movie is more than that, it focus a lot on the main characters social life and many other movies ignore that. This gives “Heat” a deep that is unusual and rare for this kind of movies. It sure cached my eye immediately, and I like it.

Physical Environment:

It’s in the middle of Los Angeles, between all the skyscrapers.
It’s a lot of gangsters around there, a lot of crap, which is circling around them. I would guess that it’s around 1980-1990.
The environment is dark and atmospheric, and it’s well presented in the movie. There is some kind of dust over the city, ...
