Wilde was an recognised author that lived from 1854 to 1900. He grew up in Ireland and lived with a family of eight members. Wilde was well-known for his outspokenness and his rebellious way of dressing. Regarded as one of the best playwrighters of the Victorian Era Wilde wrote witty and sophisticated plays that today is read by people all over the world. One of his story’s though not that generally known is “The selfish giant” which I am going to write a sum up about. This story is a fairytale and is about a giant that has been away seven years from his home, a castle. When he returns children are playing happily and joyful in his garden but the selfish giant wants his garden all to himself and builds a big wall around his castle so that the children no longer can play there. But when it becomes winter inside his garden he notices that it is now summer outside the huge wall. The children made it summer wherever they played because all of the trees and flowers wanted smiles and laughter around them so that they could grow. The giant realised that he had been wrong and let the children play in his garden again. He grew fond of a special boy and the two of them became good friends. One day he saw the little boy in his garden after the winter and ran out to him. He could now see that he was nailed to the tree and the giant was very mad at the being who had done this to his dear friend. The boy just wanted to do something good back to giant and said that now he can follow him to his garden.

The message was that you shouldn’t be so selfish and only have cares for yourself when there are others in need. The most sad part but also the most giving is the end. The little boy is so thankful that all the little children was allowed to play in the garden that he wanted to be kind back. He asks if the giant wants to follow him to his garden, called paradise. When I read that my eyes started to water. That was true genuine kindness and Wilde must have been a dreaming person to have made up something incredible story like this.
I know Wilde has written many story’s, tails, play’s and so on and he has influenced several authors of our time. My likes about him is high much for his inventiveness and he also seemed to have a lively fantasy that took people by their surprise and also how his words seemed to stuck in ones head. His quotes...
