For thirty years they’ve been creating great heavy metal which is loved all over the world. It all started in 1975 in London with a man called Steve Harris. Today Iron Maiden is one of the world’s most famous metal bands. They have sold more than 70 millions albums.
Iron Maiden started to play at small local clubs all around London and got a small but enthusiastic fan club. But their big world success began in1982 when “Number of the Beast” was released. The album was later considered to be as one of rock histories greatest triumphs. Some people even say that Number of the Beast made Iron Maiden the giant band they are today.

Last summer in Gothenburg, just outside the big arena Ullevi, about 57 000 people with leatherjackets were waiting in the heat. About six hours later the great metal band Iron Maiden enter the stage…
-“Scream for me Sweden!” Dickinson roars and Sweden is screaming. This is love in its pure shape and it just can’t be better. The concert begins with Murders in the Rue Morgue, the audience is jumping and the sun is finally appearing after one hour of constant rain. It is so beautiful and impressing that for a flash of a second I feel religious. That concert was a part of history, also because it was the last time they were playing music from their first four albums. The television-company SVT, were broadcasting the concert live in Swedish television. That summer they really showed how huge they are in Scandinavia. Also because when the tickets to their show at Ullevi was released, they sold out in less then half an hour.

Another amazing memory of Iron Maiden was an evening in early spring a year ago. I was in a park called Haga with some friends from school. We had started a small fire in a picnic area and were sitting close together to get some heat from the fire. Suddenly a boy from my class started to sing the intro to a Maiden song, Hallowed be thy name. After a while everyone joined. I still recognize that wonderful feeling of sitting around a fire in the middle of the night with my friends, singing one of my favourite songs. I remember thinking life just can’t be better!

Iron Maiden is not just my favourite band, they are popular with a lot of other people as well. Just by going into any store that sells t-shirts, pins and other music souvenirs you will see a great difference between Iron Maiden and other bands. There are one or two t-shirts from every band but a whole section with different Iron Maiden and Eddie t-shirts.

Iron Maiden has always been a great band and they have also been an inspiration source to many other bands. Also because of Maidens big success there has been people who have made a lot of fun of their music. Anton Maiden is one of them. He is a person who has changed different Iron Maiden-songs and played them with classical instruments like violin etc. The singing is also mixed so everything sounds just awful.

Ever since I got my first Iron Maiden CD from my cousin on my 14th birthday I’ve been listening to their music. It doesn’t matter what song you’re listening to, in the very first intro you’ll hear that they’re something special. They give me some kind of energy. One of my favourite songs is called Wasted years. I think it is a good example of sound of Iron Maiden’s music. It gives me a feeling of hope and happiness. Just listen and enjoy!

Facts about Iron Maiden:
• Bruce Dickinson (the singer) once said no to compete in fence in the Olympic Games, to play with Iron Maiden at one of their concerts.
• The name came from a movie called “The man in the iron mask” where “Iron Maiden” (in Swedish: järnjungfru) was a middle aged torture tool.
