Lasse Hallström was born in June second 1946 in Stockholm, Sweden. He has two children, a son (born in 1976) with his ex-wife Malou Hallström and a daughter ( born in 1995) with his current wife Lena Olin.
He and Lena Olin are the first Swedish Oscar-nominated married couple. They moved to USA permanently in 1995. They now live in Bedford, New York.

What’s eating Gilbert Grape
Gilbert lives with his family in Endora, a place where nothing happens. Living in Endora is like dancing to no music or swim with no water.

Gilbert has two sisters and one brother. His brothers name is Arnie and Arnie was born autistic. The doctor sad that Arnie just would live to ten years if he was really lucky, but his tenth birthday passed and in a few days Arnie would turn eighteen.
It’s mostly Gilbert that takes care of Arnie which can be pretty demanding. At least while you’re working at the local grocery store.

The children’s father killed himself one day in the basement and nobody could understand why. After that their mother went in a depression, she started to eat very much and she became fatter and fatter. After a while she almost couldn’t move, she was just sitting in the living room sofa and watched TV.

But one day Gilberts life changes, the day when Becky and her grandmother passes through Endora getting trouble with the car. Gilbert almost immediately falls in love with Becky, but he gets problems when he tries to find time for his own private life.

Review:
The film was okay but it’s definitely not a film that I would like to see over and over again.

However I do think Leonardo DiCaprio did an amazingly good role in this film when he act as an autistic boy and he really should have received a price for the role ...
