In the kingdom of Wendar, strange and dreadful portents sweep across the land. At the old ruins appear spirits and dark ancient magic that should long be gone is at last back to the human world. King Henry and his sister Sabella threaten the kingdom. The inhuman Eika raiders who strike from the northern seas, the Quman horsemen, the "winged" riders who raid from the east and loots and burns farms and villages has entered the human kingdom and is ready for the destruction of the human lands.
Into the midst of these troubles walk three young people: Sanglant, Liath, and Alain that are the main characters in all the series of Crown of stars. Victory goes hand in hand with death; the question is if they can survive the challenges that are to meet them.

Sanglant is a prince, bastard son of King Henry. Born and bred to become captain of the elite cavalry ¨the King''''s Dragons¨ and to give his life to protect his father''''s kingdom, he cannot know the terrible fate that awaits him.

Liath is the child of sorcerers, trained as a mathematici (sorcerer), who knows the secrets of the stars. Liath and her father has been running for their lives for the past eight years, and soon that which hunts them is going to catch up.

Alain is a fosterling, seeking the truth of his parentage. Only when he accepts his destiny will he learn the truth of his birth, that he is a bastard and if his true mother is a hore or of elfish motherkind

Alain joins count Lavestins crusade and are finally ready to discover who his real father is. When he has understood his past, the future and his fate can begin.

Liath father die while they still are running. Whoever they were running from has couth up with them and killed her father. Liath decides she won’t run anymore but will face her fate, who or what she is up against will be her fate discover.

Sanglant was send by his father Henry to stop the Eika invasion with the dragon force (elite cavalry) while the rest of the kingdom is stopping the traitor Sabella who reject his ruling as the king. The Eika king uses magic together with all his force to easy take the dock town Gent and crush the dragon force together with price Sanglant.

My thoughts and contemplates

King’s Dragon is a 623 page long book. This book is volume one of seven written books. The book is a series named Crown of stars, maybe because the main charters are born under the strongest and most beautiful stars. Crown of stars are written by Kate Elliot. At the first hundred pages it is very boring and slowly, but when the book later connects some things and you understand entire meaning together with why and how the events occurred. The books are as always long on English so it both takes more time for each page together that it is many more pages. I don’t complain that the book is too long because I never think that way. The longer it is, the better it will be (unless it is boring).
The reason why the book is so hard to understand in the beginning is that you see many events on the same time inside so many perspectives. The book is showing events from different view all the time. Mostly u see as: the ¨savage¨, prince Sanglat, king Henry, his sister Rosvita, many smaller charters, ¨corrupted¨ monk Hugh or the 2 main characters Alain and Liath. The book was ok but not any better, this is because the book is to get understanding of the past and how things fit together meantime the rest of crown of starts if more fighting and exiting, just the way I want it to be.
