Charmed

Charmed is an American TV-series that ran for eight seasons on The WB. The show is about three sisters who are witches. They are called “The Charmed Once” because they are the most powerful witches in the world. Nobody but their closest friends knows that they are witches because if they would tell everybody demons would try to kill them.

The sisters
The eldest sister is Prue (Prudence) was born on October 28 in 1970. Prue has got the power of telekinesis, later on in the show she manifested astral projection ability. She has a very strong will, is very feisty and intelligent. Prue often takes charge and she is very overprotecting of her sisters, Piper and Phoebe. She has been very protective of her sisters after their mother died when they where young. Pruedence was killed by a demon called Shax who was a hired hitman sent by the source.

The middle sister is Piper and she was born on August 7 in 1973. Her power is to freeze and to explode objects. She is the sister who always wanted to have a normal life. Later on in the show she becomes a mother of two sons, Chris and Wyatt and a daughter named Melinda. The father of the children is Leo Wyatt. Pipers biggest passion is food. Piper loves to cook and she becomes the head chef at a restaurant named Quake. Later on in the series she´s opening her own club, called P3. In the last episode it´s reveald that she´s opening her own restaurant.

The youngest sister is Phoebe. She was born on November 2 in 1975. The power that Phoebe was born with was premonition. Later on in the series her power has grown so much that she can project herself into the future. Phoebe is a very romantic, and later on a succesfull columnist and author. Her longest relationship besides her relationship with her present husband, were with half-deamon Cole Turner. It lasted for over a year. Her present husband is Coop. They got married in 2006 and in the final episode it´s revealed that they evetually had three girls. Phoebe continued to work at the Bay Mirror and also wrote a book on finding love.

Paige Matthews is the half-sister and she was born on August 2 in 1977. She´s got the same mother as the charmed ones, but not the same father. Her father was her mothers whitelighter, Samuel Wilder. Paige was left at the doors of a curch because her parents´ love was forbidden. Her birth power was telekinesis, but because she was part Whitelighter she had that power to orb as well. In season 8 she gained the power to heal those she loved. Paige wanted to be a full-time witch because she couldn´t find anything she wanted to work with. Later on Paige ran the magic school and became the headmistress to guarantee the students safety. Paige married mortal parole officer Henry Mitchell and they had twin daughters and a son, Henry Jr.

The story

It all began with the three Halliwell sisters, Prue, Piper and Phoebe. They got together six month after ther grandmother died. They all moved back to the old family house in San Fransisco. One day the youngest sister Phoebe found an old book in the attic. It was The Book of Shadows. When Phoebe was reading out loud from the first paige of the book, she weren´t aware of that she was invoking the sisters magical powers. When they read a little bit more from the book they realized that they were witches.

They discovered that they not only had supernatural powers but they came from a long time of powerful witches. The first one was Melinda Warren. Before sha died she prophesied that each coming generation of Warren (later Halliwell) witches would grow stronger and stronger, culminating in the arrival of three sisters. The strongest good witches the world had ever seen. The three sisters would form The Power of Three, become the most powerful magical force ever.

After the death of Prue it was reveald that the sisters had a half-sister named Paige. Since her parents love was forbidden she was given to a nun and later on adopted by the Matthew family.

The sisters are struggeling to balance normal lives with their supernatural responsibilities. There has been some problems with thier friendships, workplaces and romantic relationships, since they have to keep their powers a secret. They have only told a few of their closest friends about their situaton. Some of them were policemen Andy Trudeu and Darryl Morris and half-deamon Cole Turner.

The probably most important person in the sisters lives are Leo Wyatt. He´s their Whitelighter. He´s asigned by the Elders to guide and protect the sisters. He also becomes Pipers boyfriend and later in series, her husband.

The show was on from october 7, 1998 – May 21, 2006. There managed to be eight seasons, 178 episodes. Each episod were 40-45 minutes long.
The executive pruducer of the series was Brad Kern, Constance M. Burge and Aaron Spelling. The series has been shown on the Swedish TV-channel TV3 in many rounds.

In the last season, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan earned about 200.000 dollars on each episode.

My thoughts
Charmed was my favorite TV-series when I was younger. I used to record the episodes just so I could see them again and again. I think I liked the series so much because it was about relationships between friends, and family. Since I don´t hava any brothers or sisters I guess I liked to se how it could be like to have a close relationship with siblings. My favorite caracter was Prue. I don´t know why I liked her the mos...
