Andrew Warhola, wich was Andy Warhols real name, was born in Forest City in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is disputed wich day he was born, but it must have been betwen 1928 and 1931. Andy himself declared that his birthcertificate from 1930 was false. But often it is mention 6 of july 1928 as the date of his birth. But it is absolutly clear that he died 22 of februari 1987 after an operation of his gall bladder. Andy was the son of the mine and building worker Ondrej and his wife Julia Warhola. The father had emigrated from Tjeckoslovakia to America in 1912 and nine years after the father, Andys mother emigrated to. Andy grew up with his both siblings and found attraction to art and artwork. He began to practise his art work home in Forest City and his first paintings took shape. Andrew Warhola change his name to Andy Warhol when he moved to New York in 1949.

He got a job as a commercial graphic designer on the magazine ”Vogue” and he made his first commercial drawings to the famous shoe company I. Miller. Andy got the award ”Thirthy Fifth Annual Art Directors’ Club Award” for the Miller sho commercial, and further got the big award ”Art Directors’ Club Medal”. In 1952 Andy got his first separate exhibition in the gallery Hugo, New York. The catastrophe sequence of painting: Car Crash, Suicide and Electric Chair made by Andy in 1962 and created big attention.

Andy was very reserved and very taciturn to journalists. Thought he doesn’t miss a public entertainment and seldom miss a big party, he loved to let him be represented by his own look-alike. Andy was always suronded by famous actors and actrises and one of his paintings predict that all should be famous in 15 minutes time. Andy begun to study artwork in public commercial and used familiar and popular trademarks in his paintings. He used famous trademark and persons like Marilyn Monroe and the food company Campbell. His wide produktion of portrets and pictures was prepared in his studio ”the factory”. Warhol lived for mass media and he become an massmedial mega star not only in the world of art but also in general.

He created an alternative celebrity world through his movies and his own magazine ”Interview” who was published 1969. Andy also made many art movies like the movie ”Sleep”, where you can see one man who is asleep during six hours. Warhol got to know the rock group Velvet Underground in 1965 and an cooperation betveen Andy and the group begun. Warhol also designed one of their records with a banana on the cover, where you could peel of the shell of the banana and see the fruit. It was a smash hit and sold millions around the world.
