G E O R G E B E R N A R D S H A W
George Bernard Shaw as born in 1856 in Dublin, Ireland (which as at this time was a part of the British Kingdom). He grew up in Dublin and at the age of 20 years old, 1876, he moved to the capital of Great Britain, London. In the early days in London he became a big critical of music and theatre.
In 1884 he became a member of the socialistic and pacifistic organisation of Fabian Society. While he lived in London he became a vegetarian and a total abstainer, which means that he didn’t drank any alcohol at all.
In the early days of his life he wrote some small novels that never got any big attention but it all changed in 1892. This year his play ”Widowers’ house” was released. This was his first play released as a dramatician. The ”Widowers’ house” was a critical play against the unfair society in Great Britain.
And after this play his masterpieces went on and almost every year there was either a book or a play released.
In 1893 he released ”Mrs Warrens profession” and in this book he wrote that marriage and prostitution was very equal and of course this book was discussed along the criticians all over the world.
In 1894 he released ”Arms & the man” and in 1895 ”Candida”.
About this time he became a supporter of Henrik Ibsen and he had a sharp and spiritual intelligence.
He also wrote historical productions such as ”Caesar & Cleopatra” (1898) and ”Man and Superman” (1905).
In 1905 he released the book of ”Major Barbara” and in 1912 ”Pygmalion” was released. The later one later on became the famous musical ”My fair lady” and this was about the big difference between people and people in the society. That the citizens were divided into different hierarchic levels where people due to their heritage were more of a value than other.
One of the last plays he wrote in his life was ”Saint Johanna” written in 1923 and this also became the most known play, after ”Pygmalion”.
