Wales is one of Great Britain’s’ four parts. Wales lies west of England; its cost is facing the Irish Sea. The capital of Wales is Cardiff. Cardiff was only made the capital of Wales in 1955, prior to this the English government refused to recognise Wales´ need for a capital, maintaining that it was just a part of England. The largest towns are Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. The population is about 2.8 million and nearly two-thirds of the population lives near by the largest towns.

In Welsh are they talking English and Welsh. Welsh, is a Celtic language and also one of the oldest in Europe. For hundred of years the Welsh people were forced to speak English. So when Welsh were made an official language in 1967, only about 20 per cent of the population could speak it. Today all children must learn Welsh at school. There is one thing that drivers from other countries find strange and possibly rather difficult is that all road signs and public building signs are bi-lingual English/Welsh. Wales got the same currency as the rest of Great Britain, the British pound.

Wales has the sort of climate often described as "temperate". This means that it never gets very hot or very cold. May, June, July and August are the sunniest and driest months. Wales’s landscape got mountains, forests, woodlands, canals and lakes. There are also magnificent gardens including the National Botanic Garden of Wales, which boasts the largest single span glass house in the world. In Wales there are over 400 castles and ancient monuments to visit.
