Johan Grisham is born on February 8, 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to a construction worker and a homemaker, John Grisham as a child dreamed of being a professional baseball player. But he realizing he didn´t have the right stuff for a pro career, he shifted gears and majored in accounting at Mississippi State University. Grisham’s hobby was to write books, and before he had write The Firm he had write two other books but The Firm became the bestselling novel of 1991. When he´s not writing, Grisham devotes time to charitable causes, including taking mission trips with his church group. He also keeps up with his greatest passion: baseball.

The firm is about Mitch McDeereto, a young man who works in a little restaurant and really wants it all; money, power, a big house and a fast car. He wants to become a lawyer so he studies very hard. He is succesfull and graduate as top five from Harvard Law School. The good results result in him receiveing many offers from different law firms, the best one coming from Bedini, Lambert & Locke, a firm that really wants him. They only take on one member every other year so he accepts that offer and starts to work for them.

The firm is very generous, he is given a nice car and a beautiful little house for him and his wife. But after a while he is contacted by the F.B.I. who say that the law firm have bugged his home and are listening to all of his phone calls and that he and his family are under surveillance. The F.B.I think that the firm is washing money for the mafia, so they want him to get them some documents that can prove their statement.

The F.B.I also tell him that the firm he works for probably have followed his every move and taped all his phone calls, and that they surely would kill him if he left the firm. Mitch tells them that in order for him to help them he wants 1.5 million dollars and a release of his brother who is in jail for manslaughter. Mitch got the money and they released Mitch brother.
