This film is about the 17-year- old high-school student Sara from Virginia. The film takes place maybe in January, 2001. She wants to be a professional ballerina but when her mother dies in a car accident she puts her dream aside because she feels that she can’t succes without her mothter.

Sara is forced to move to her father''''s gangster neighborhood in Chicago. Her father Roy left Sara and her mother when Sara was very young because of his jazz career. Sara doesn’t see him as her father but after a while they get to know each other better. And they comes closer and closer to each other. Roy is like and ordinary father who takes care of Sara and he does his best to make Sara happy. She starts her new life in a new school. The school is a black high-school where she is one of the few white girls who go there. There she meets her first friend, Chenille. Chenille is a kind teenage mother. Sara turns to the clubs for refuge and then she become enthralled in the hip hop culture. There she meets a black young man. He shares her love for dancing. His name is Derek and he is Chenille’s intellegent brother. Sara and Derek fall in love with each other and they become boyfriend and girlfriend.

Derek helps Sara with her dance dream: to attend at the dance school Juilliard. Derek is the only man among the gangsters who puts the career first. He doesn’t use drugs or stuff like that. He wants to be a doctor after high-school. But Derek’s best friend Malakai is another story. He is a real gangster, he is aggressive and very strong and he wants Derek to follow his lead because Malakai saved Derek’s butt when the police where hunting him.


Derek’s ex girlfriend Nikki is jealous of Sara. Nikki is a bitch and she thinks that she is the best and she doesn’t care about the rest. She does everything she can to get Sara out of Derek’s life but she doesn’t succes. Derek and Sara trains with the ballet very hard and finally one day Sara is ready to go to the audituion. Her father takes her there but Derek is not with her. He’s on a “mission -” with Malakai and the boys. Derek is faced with a decision of going to a gangbattle with his friend Malakai or being there for Sara at her audition for Juilliard. He choose to be there for Sara and he comes just in time when Sara is...
