The detectives got a visit of a young woman with long black hair in a splice. She tells the detectives that her sister died two years ago in some kind of accident, which probably could be a murder. She’s very worried and disconsolate, and she doesn’t know what to do. Her mothers died some years ago and were the one who supported the family about two sisters and a new husband. The girl’s stepfather has been in prison for some years but he’s now released. She worrying about he was the one who killed her sister and her mother, but she just don’t know how to prove it.
She wants the detectives to help her, and they will.

The stepfather named Dr. Roylott was coming fifteen minutes after the woman, Mrs. Stoner has left the building. Dr. Roylott was a very big and a frightening man, and he had a speckled snake that scares many kinds of people.
He has pursued the women to the detectives Holmes and Watson. He was very upset, and told the detectives to hold themselves to their own business, and don’t care what he was doing.
The suspicions were growing all the time, all against Dr. Roylott. Holmes received new theories minute after minute, but nothing was totally right.

The big grey house stands right in front of them, in there, Mrs. Stoner living. Afraid of being killed by Dr. Roylott. How has he done this? How has he taken two lives? Mr Holmes and Watson want to find out that.
They walk round and round in the house, up the stairs until they came to a small room. In there, something felt wrong.
“It’s my sisters’ room” said Mrs. Stoner and showed the bed.
“Interesting” said Mr Holmes when he looked at the little bed in the dark corner, below a big white venial.
“The bed is crowded in the floor” exclaimed detective Holmes.
“And maybe it came some kind of smoke out of the venial, and she maybe died in that way?” The other two, Mrs. Stoner and Mr. Watson stand impressived beside him.
They walked out of the room and around in the house. Mr. Watson had the revolver in his hand. In next room they find him, Dr. Roylott, with a speckled band around his neck.
“The Indian poison snake” screamed Mr. Holmes and saw Dr. Roylott lying dead in the chair. -> Turn to next page, please.
Mrs. Stoner’s mother and sister had died in the same way as him, but why?

My opinion:

If I should compare an English and a German book, should an English book be so much easier! This book was a simple one and I can read some more difficult book next time.

I liked this book, it was partly very exiting. It was very logical why all those things happened and I understood almost everything.
I can warm recommend this book to everyone from grade si...
