Big companies in the US

Hello there! I would like to present some of the most famous and well known companies in the US. Not only in the US actually but all over the world.

I am going to start with a company you all know, for sure, and that is the Coca Cola Company, the world biggest soft-drink company, established in 1892 in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2006 the Coca Cola Company had 71,000 employees and they own four of the top five soft-drink brands (Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Fanta, and Sprite).
The Coca-Cola Company offers nearly 400 drink products in over 200 countries, and they are best known for their best seller Coca Cola.
Coca Cola is actually the most well known brand in the whole world according to Business Week Magazine, and their annual ranking of the Best Global Brands in 2006.
The company only produces water and non-alcoholic soda drinks. This is funny because the first drink they produced consisted of wine and cocaine.

In Atlanta, Georgia, the Coca Cola Company has a museum whit a collection of very old Coca Cola products and galleries where you can by art from the world famous pop artist Andy Warhol, and much more.

One place where you will find a Coke for sure is at McDonalds.
The McDonalds Corporation where founded in San Bernardino, California in 1940 by Dick and Mac McDonald.
Today McDonalds is the worlds largest chain of fast-food restaurants with more then 31 000 restaurants and 438 000 employees in 121 countries.
They serve 46 million customers per day and their best seller is the Big Mac.
According to Fortune 500, which is a ranking of the top 500 American public corporations measured by revenue, the McDonalds Corporation is ranked as the 108:th biggest company overall. But they are the biggest food-chain company.


After taking a meal at McDonalds, you maybe would like to watch a movie. The movie you’ll choose are probably produced by Universal Studios, which is one of the biggest film producers in the world.

Universal Studios where founded in Universal City, Los Angeles in 1909.

Universal City got its name after the building of their times biggest Universal film studio.
They are most known for their movies produced by Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock.
At Universal Studios they have 15,000 employees.
Between the year 2000 and 2007 Universal Studios have produced over 100 movies.
Besides making movies Universal Studios are also well known for their theme parks.
The theme parks are all in Orlando, Florida. There are four theme parks which all has their own theme.

One of the theme parks, Wet ’n Wild, is one of the best and most exciting water parks in the states. They even got a smaller version of the park for the kids.

Another theme park owned by Universal Studios is Sea World where you can find all kinds of sea animals and watch live dolphin shows.

At the theme park called Universal Studios you got the unique possibility to see how they make movies for real. You might even meet a real and famous actor or watch the new Shrek movie in 4-D format.

Island Of Adventure is another theme park with crazy roller coasters and other attractions.


Another film making company is The Walt Disney Company.
The Walt Disney Company where founded in Burbank, California, USA 1923 by the two brothers Walt and Roy Disney.
They have more then 133,000 employees and a revenue by 35,3 billion dollars.
The Walt Disney Company isn’t only a big film company - they also have eleven theme parks all over the world.

To afford going to the cinemas you will need money, and a lot of money is at stake at NASDAQ stock market.

NASDAQ was the first electronic stock market in the world when they where founded in 1971. They are one of the biggest stock market but they only got approximately 2000 employees. If you want to visit NASDAQ you will find them in Manhattan, New York.

If you are unlucky and are being robbed while visiting United States you should contact the police. And if the robber is known by the police, but nowhere to be found, the case might be handled over to the FBI.

FBI stands for Federal Bureau of Investigation and where founded 1908.
The most important task for FBI is to protect USA from terrorists and terror attacks. To accomplish their task they got 11,000 special agents who are all trained in the FBI-academy in Virginia. They have 456 offices in the world and more then half of them are in the US.

Another worldfamous company is Microsoft Corporation.
Microsoft where founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA 1975 by Bill Gates.
He is the richest person in the world and earns 5,7 billion dollars a year, according to the Forbes magazine.
They are the world’s biggest company within software products for computers.
Their best-seller is the Microsoft Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office.
There are more then 70 000 people working for Microsoft in 102 countries.



Fortune Magazine is one of the most famous magazines in the US because of their annual ranking list called Fortune 500, where they rank the top 500 companies based on their revenue.
