This movie is about Will and Marcus that meets during unusual circumstances.

Will is a rich, single guy in his thirties who spends his whole days watching TV, shopping, and getting his hair fixed. He is searching available women, so Will invents an imaginary son and Will joins a single parents' group called SPAT. As a result of one of his lies, he meets Marcus, an odd 12-year-old boy with problems at school and with his mum. You get to follow Will and Marcus strange relationship to watch it grow in to a great one
Will Freeman is a 36-years old man that lives in London. Will have never had a job in his life because his father hade written a very successful Christmas song. Since his fathers death the royalties of the song had come to Will. He keeps himself occupied by watching TV, having baths, going out with friends, shopping and other activities. The first time you see Will he’s a self-centred guy that acts like a teenager and doesn’t like children but in the movie he grows up to be a really nice guy.
Marcus is a 12-year old boy that lives alone with his mother Fiona in London. They moved there from Cambridge some weeks ago. Marcus is very shy and he doesn’t have any friends because the other children think he’s uncool and weird. His mother tells him what he should wear and which kind of music he should listen to. His mother thinks that she knows what is good for her son but she doesn’t see that her son gets bullied. The first time you see Marcus he seems to be a nice but a little different but and without friends but after a while in the movie he gets a friend Ellie and then everything is starting to go well for Marcus.
It all started when Suzie and Will were going to the SPAT picnic in regent’s park. Suzie and Marcus mom are friends and she had asked if he could come with them because Fiona didn’t feel so very good. Marcus doesn’t like the fact being sent away to this picnic with Suzie and this weird guy Will. But he tries not to show it to them. Somehow Marcus happens to kill a duck, and that is the first sign of something being wrong this day. When he, Suzie, Will and Megan enter Marcus and Fiona’s flat, they find Fiona laying on the couch She’s been trying to commit suicide. She doesn’t success, since she’s taken to the hospital and the doctors empty her stomach of its content. The day after Marcus finds a letter on the table. A suicide letter from his mom. It says that the reason she wants to commit suicide is not that she is so unhappy she don’t wants to live anymore. That’s not why. She feels more ‘like the party is over and I want to go home’. She’s bored of life, that’s why. After a few days Marcus comes up with the idea that if Fiona had a boyfriend, they would be a total of three people, and if one of them disappeared, he would have at least one person left. If Fiona and the boyfriend had a baby, there would be four of them, and that would be even better and he would never be alone. Marcus tries to match up Fiona and Will, which doesn’t work at all. Marcus starts to visit Will after school, even though neither Will nor Fiona wants him there, but gradually their relationship starts to grow, against Wills will. Marcus “adopts” Will as his stepfather, and after a while Will realizes that he actually likes and cares about this strange, lonely kid. The movie is British but I would not say that it’s typical British because there were no special buildings that only is in England, I mean the movie could have been filmed in perhaps USA or France.
