The aim of this essay was to describe and analyse factors of importance for the process of becoming drug-free. The questions we tried to answer were: "What did the lives of the interviewees look like at the moment?", "From what kinds of backgrounds did the interviewees come?", "What had the interviewees?? processes of change been like?" and "How did the interviewees regard their drug-free lives at the moment?". The survey was based on qualitative interviews and focused on the personal stories of the interviewees. We interviewed three women and three men, all of which had several years of drug-abuse behind them. They had all been drug-free for at least two years and at the moment they all lived socially integrated lives. We established three significant factors, which had influenced our interviewees to stop taking drugs. The first factor was a pure reason of health. They had realised that they could not live with the abuse anymore and that there was no other way out except quitting drugs. The second factor was a dissociation from drugs.
