It was June, that month I’m going to tell you about. Now I sit here and think about that summer, about all those memories, all the feelings, and all the love. Now it was maybe 10 months, since I saw him, that boy. It’s the 6 may today and I’m 15 years old. Soon it’s summer again so that’s why I’m going to tell you about the best, and also worse, weekend of my life.

It all started when me and my friend Emma was on the beach a day in June. The summer vacation had just started and we had just finished the seventh grade. Now was the mid summer lying in front of us. We really, really wanted to have a change, and do something else than just be with our families. But we couldn’t come up with any idea. We were lying there all day, and some hours later people started to go home. We decided to do the same, we packed our things and went home. We weren’t getting any sun burn anyway, because the clock had all ready turned 5 pm. But it felt like we just got there.

I was sitting, surfing on the internet, when a guy wrote to me. He looked pretty good so I asked what he was going to do on midsummer.

”I’m going to party, there’s a big party in town that weekend!” , was the answer I got. ”OK, where do you live then?” I wrote, and the answer I got was going to change everything!
”I live in Hallstahammar, come there!”. ”But I don’t know you, and I don’t even have somewhere to live!?”, I asked and got a idea. ”My name is Kai Lindström, and of course you can live at my house!”, and after that answer I was running to the telephone, and calling Emma in a hurry.

- Hello, someone said on the other side of the line after a while. - Is Emma there?, I asked.
- Yes, wait a minute, and then I heard someone pick up the phone. - Hey, is it Caroline?
- Yeah, I’ve got the best idea! Listen.. We are going on a party in Hallstahammar! - WHAT?! When?, Emma screamed, and I told her everything about Kai and how he looked. So we decided that we should try to go there, but first we had to come up whit an idea. Because what were we going to tell our parents?

– Maybe we can tell them that we are going to a party, where you sleep over. And we can say that it’s at some of our friend’s houses. Then they won’t worry, said Emma and smiled. I thought for some seconds. And maybe it would work. – Now I know, I said and smiled back at Emma. We just say somebody, that doesn’t exist. So then they can’t call, and ask for us! I looked at Emma and she seemed to like the idea.

It was a warm hot day that day when we were sitting on that bus. And the bus was going to Hallstahammar! But, first we had to change bus in Gävle, and after that in Stockholm. And last in Västerås. All we could think of was how this night was going to end. But it never came to be what we thought and hoped for.

- Wait for me Emma, I screamed and started to run. Emma stopped and looked on me whit a glimpese of anger in her eyes. – I can’t find that fucking bus!, she said and stamped whit her feet. – So.. What are we going to do now then?, I said and started to look around me for a sign, whit a bus on. – Well, I’m not stopping my trip here. I’m going to find that bus. And I’m going to make it to the end, Emma said in just the same second that I saw a sign with a blue bus on. –There it is! I screamed whit all my voice and we started to run the fastest we could.
When we came to the other side of the road we saw a bus. Probably it was the bus we should take, because it was a big sign that said Stockholm. And that was exactly where we were going. Just in the same second the bus started to move. All I could think was “No” and then I was running after. Luckily the driver saw me, and we could go on the bus and in some hours we were in Stockholm.

It was in Stockholm everything started to go wrong. We missed the bus that was going to Västerås, and there we sat. We really didn’t know what to do. The time just passed by and in the next moment it was night. At 12.00 pm the terminal was closing, and after that we didn’t have anywhere to go. But then I saw on the big screen that were in the other side of the room, that another bus was going to Västerås at exactly 12 pm. – Are we going to take that bus instead?, I asked Emma. – Yeah, maybe we’ll come a little bit late. But I think it’s better than just sit here. Me and Emma never thought about going home. We wanted to go there so much, that we just could have sold our souls.

One hour later, when we sat on that bus, that was going to Västerås, I felt very tired. The night was so dark. You could see that when you looked out the window. So much houses, and bridges, we just passed. Never really knew where we were. We just new where we were going. Suddenly I heard a weird sound, so I looked on Emma. She was sleeping like a rock, and I also just wanted to sleep. But what if we should miss the next stop, in Västerås?

We didn’t miss the stop, but I don’t think that should have been changing anything. It would maybe even be good. Because, when we arrived to Västerås, the clock was maybe 03 pm. Well, maybe late, but, it will be OK, we thought and started to walk. It was quiet between us, we didn’t say so much. I think we both thought about what would happen. If we wouldn’t find a bus that could take us to Hallstahammar, what would happen then?

- I can see a bus station, Emma said and looked away, almost like she was angry. –OK, lets go there and see if there’s any bus going to Hallstahammar at this time of the night, I proposed and started to realise that the busses had stopped to go 3 a clock in the night. A young girl, maybe about 19, sat on a bench beside the bus station. – Excuse me, do you know when the next bus goes from here to Hallstahammar?, I asked and she looked at me for a moment. – Oh, I’m sorry but the latest bus went for an hour ago.. she answered and looked pretty sad, like she would petty us. We started to walk down the road and we found a big flower garden whit roses. We started to pick bouquets and they were so beautiful, so pink and cute. When I looked and smelled on them, I didn’t think about that we didn’t have anywhere to go, I was somewhere else, deep inside my mind.

- Carro, I’ve been thinking. And I think we must hitch-hike, to Hallstahammar, Emma said and punched me. – What?, I asked and waked up from my thoughts. – I think we must hitch-hike. I mean, how else should we make it to Hallstahammar?, she repeated and I just looked on her. – What? Do you know how dangerous that is?, I said very astonished. But when I thought about it, that was our only chance. Because, if the police would see us, they would take us in. The police wouldn’t like two thirdteen years old girls walking around in the city, in the middle of the night. – Well.. OK then. Lets try, I said after some seconds.

After maybe 30 minutes a white little car stopped and I walked to the car, to see who it was that had stopped. It was two young guys, and they thought that we could sleep over at their place, then they would drive us to Hallstahamar in the morning. We thought that it did sound a little bit weird. What if they were going to rape us or something? Well, we realised that we didn’t have so much of a choice. We said yes and they told us to sit in the car. I remember that it was Britney Spears on the radio, “Ooops I did it again”, if I can remember right.

They had a very little apartment, it was one bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and also one living-room. The both guys just walked in to the living-room, so me and Emma did the same.
Their living-room wasn’t the most beautiful one I’ve seen, but I have also seen worse. It was pink curtains and flowers everywhere, but the flowers didn’t seem to be real.

After a while I said to the others that I had to go to the bathroom, and when I came back Emma was drinking something. The guys were also drinking it so I didn’t believe that it was dangerous. On the table was a pot. It was something brown in it and it was very hot. But I was very hungry and very thirsty, because we hadn’t been eating anything since we left. So I thought this would be perfect, before a good nights sleep. But the night didn’t turn out to be so good.

It was very bright when I opened my eyes. I was lying on a mattress on the floor in a little room. Beside me Emma was lying, so I wake her. I asked her what the hell we were doing there but she didn’t know. We couldn’t remember anything, we just had this sickness in our stomach. I turned around and saw that mobile phone was lying beside me. I looked on it and saw that the clock was 6 am. We decided to try to get out of there, without anyone noticing us. We packed our things, and my heart was beating very fast when I opened the door. Outside the door the guys was lying, they were sleeping and we tried to walk to the hall as quiet as we could. Emma slowly opened the front door and a high noice just broke out. The door was locked! – Dear god, this is just getting more and more weird, I whispered once Emma tried to lock it up. She made it, and at one second we were out of there. We were running the fastest we could and it was just spinning around in my head. We, or I anyway, thought that they were coming after us, so I stopped a bus that was passing by on the road. The driver said that it was going to the train station. We weren’t going there but at that moment anything felt better than staying there. – What do you think happened?, Emma asked, when we just had stepped on the bus. - I don’t remember, and I can’t guess.. I had this weird feeling, I was almost sure that something had happened that night. But I couldn’t imagine what.

The train station was so closed that a train station can be. But it wasn’t any wrong with the weather, the sun was shining and you could hear so many happy birds sing. When we were there, I often thought about if this really was happening? Was this a dream or real? Everything felt so unbelivable. I mean, we were going there, missed the last bus and didn’t have anywhere to go. And we slept over at some guys place, and now we didn’t have anywhere to go again. We were standing on a closed train station whit a lost memory.

- OK, so here we are.. Emma said suddenly.
- Yeah, where are we going?, I said in the same minute as my phone started to ring. Oh, dear god it’s Kai!, I screamed and picked it up to answer. I talked whit him for a long time, he wasn’t angry, he just wanted an explanation why we didn’t come yesterday night. I explained
everything and said that we wanted to come there today instead.

A woman whit a dog was walking on the road so we asked her for the way to Hallstahammar. – Are you going to walk o Hallstahammar? Oh, my god I’ve never heard about that kind of nonsense. Well, if you really want to do it I can just say that it’s that way, and good luck!, the woman was laughing when we walked away. – Don’t you think we are going to make it?, Emma said whit a trembling voice. – We have to make it! Don’t you think that we are going to make it or what? – But.. and then she started to cry. - Oh, I’m sorry Emma. Why are you sad?, I asked and she looked up on me. – Everything is going wrong, we are never coming out of this city! And I’m hungry, I haven’t eaten since yesterday morning, and now my parents are going to wonder where I am. Remember, we were supposed to go home today!, she said and then she started to cry even more. – Well, Emma, remember that I have been whit out food as long as you, and my parents are also starting to wonder, but I’m not crying like a little baby. I’m going to Hallstahammar! And you can sit here and continue to cry if you want, but I’m going now!, I screamed and started to walk down that road that the woman had showed us. I didn’t look back, but after some minutes I heard some steps behind me. I turned back, and there was Emma. It felt much better then, being two that had to go through this together.

We had maybe been walking some hours when we were starting to come out of the city. We were very tired after all walking and searching after the right ways. We decided to sit down so we sat down on a little bench that was on the side of the road. When I was looking down the road a saw a little white car! Exactly the same as the guys had! What if they were out looking after us. I took Emmas arm and just jumped into the nearest bush. And there we were lying for a long moment. Suddenly I felt the rain on my face and that was the last thing we needed. Both me and Emma was so down, we really didn’t want to go in the rain to Hallstahammar, but something made us do it.

- Caroline! My phone is ringing!, Emma screamed.
- What, who is it?, I asked and ran forward to Emma.
- My mom! Dear god, where should I say that we are?
- I don’t know, just answer!, I said and got to be really stressed.
- No, I’m not answering. My mom is just going to scream or something. Turn your phone off, I am going to do that, so that we can do this alone. Lets go, Emma said and I just turned it off and started to walk, I didn’t want any fighting.

The road to Hallstahammar was longer than I thought, and the rain more long lasting. It felt like an eternity, walking down a long grey road, whit the rain falling down. It felt like we should never make it and it also felt like the road should never end. But then I saw a gas-station on the other side f the road, and I did get this weird feeling. – Emma, lets go to that gas-station and look if someone there know the way to Hallstahammar, I said and Emma thought it was a good idea. Inside it was a lot of people, everyone was standing in the line so I just stood there, waiting for my turn.

- Excuse me, do you know the way to Hallstahammar?, I asked the girl on the other side of he disk, and she looked very astonished. – Hmm.. Well, Walk down that road, and then you’ll see another gas-station, maybe they’ll know better, she answered an smiled at me. – Well, how long is that? – Maybe about 5 km. – OK, I said and turned around. And after me in the line a boy stud. He smiled at me and I just starred at him. He had dark brown eyes and brown/red hair. I just felt that he was special. I looked at Emma and she gave me a look, that said that we should go.

Outside the gas-station I saw that he was looking out of the window, he was looking at us. We started to walk the way that girl had told us that we should go. I saw that boy, and he was going the other way. I don’t know why but I screamed “good bye cute boy” to him, but I don’t know if he heard.
It started to thunder when we were walking over a big open place. – Think if we get struck by the lightning, Emma said and sounded really scared. – I don’t think so, but this feels very scary, I said and looked down the road. Look, there are two roads, which one should we shoose?, I asked and looked at Emma. – I don’t know, what do you think? – I think the one at the right, I said and looked at the sky. The sun was starting to brake through.

- Isn’t that the boy from the gas-station?, Emma almost screamed and pointed at someone that was walking with a bike maybe 20 meters from us. – Oh! Yes I think so!, I laughed and we both screamed of happiness. I think he heard us, because he turned around and stopped. There he stood and waited for us. What if he would ask what we wanted? We didn’t know what to say!

- Hey, where are you going?, he said and looked at us. - We are going to Hallstahamar, I said.
- Hallstahammar?, he said and seemed surprised. - Yeah, what’s your name?, I asked and felt pretty ugly, standing in the middle of a road, in the falling rain. - Max Duda. - What?, I said, pretty imbarased that I couldn’t hear what he was saying. - Max Duda! And you?, he asked and smiled. – I’m Emma and this is Carro, Emma said and looked at me. Well, we must go now, she said and then she looked at him. I couldn’t take my eyes of him. I didn’t know him, but it was something special whit him. I saw him go into his house, a big white house whit red roses in the garden.

- Emma, why did you say that we needed to go?, I said and felt very angry. – What should I say then? – I don’t know, but I want to go back there. This can’t be it. I must meet him again, I said and looked on Emma. – OK, but you have to talk. Because I don’t know what to say, Emma said and we turned around and started to go back. – I think it was here he lived, Emma said and seemed very happy. – OK, take a bre...
