J. K. Rowling has written the books about Harry Potter. Four books have been given out at the time I’m writing this, but Rowling has promised eight books about Harry. On the front of the books it only says J. K. Rowling, and nothing ells. This was because the writer didn’t want anyone to know if it was a man or a woman who had written the books.
The books are about Harry Potter. He is a wizard boy. A powerful wizard of the Dark Arts, Lord Voldemort, killed his parents when he was very young. Lord Voldemort didn’t manage to kill Harry though; Harry only got a scar shaped like a lightning on his forehead. Lord Voldemort almost lost all his powers when trying to kill Harry and then disappeared in order to collect more power. He wants Harry killed because Harry’s parents were very powerful wizards and he is afraid of Harry, thinking that Harry could be able to kill him. When Harry was a little boy he then had to stay with his aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon, both not very happy in having to take care of him. His cousin Dudley also lives there and he love teasing Harry. They are muggles (non-magical people) and Harry grew up there without knowing he was a wizard. One day he got a letter from Hogwarts, a school for wizards. He started there and the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone is about his first year at Hogwarts. At Hogwarts he got lots of friends. He made best friends with Hermione Granger, a half-muggler and a very ambitious student, and Ronald Weasley, “Ron”, a wizard boy who grew up in a big wizard family. Harry has got an owl, Hedwig (they send post by owls in the wizard-world), Hermione has got a cat named Crookshanks, and Ron’s got a very old rat called Scrabbers. At Hogwarts Harry also got enemies, the worst of them is Draco Malfoy. He does everything to hurt Harry, or better; get Harry expelled from Hogwarts.
Every book is about one year at Hogwarts, and this book is about Harry’s third year. The dangerous wizard Sirius Black has broken out of the wizard prison Azkaban and rumours say that he is out for Harry. The Ministry of Magic (sort of police in the wizard-world) thinks that Sirius is a servant for Lord Voldemort that wants to kill Harry. At Hogwarts the security is sharpened up and some of the guards at Azkaban are placed at Hogwarts. The guards are called Dementors and they suck all happy thoughts out of people. Now one has ever been able to get pass the Dementors and out of Azkaban before and therefore everyone is very frightened, thinking of how powerful Sirius must be. Every time a Dementor is nearby every one gets in a bad mood, but Harry is much more affected by the presence of a Dementor. Harry faints and in his head he is starting to hear his mum and dad’s voices, shouting to Lord Voldemort and begging him not to kill them and Harry. One day Sirius was sighted at Hogwarts and everyone were terrified. Some how Harry, Ron and Hermione finds his hiding place and gets eye to eye with him. He says that he isn’t out for Harry, but Ron’s rat Scrabbers who turns out to be an animagus, a wizard who can transfigure himself into an animal. It is very hard to try to recall the story here but it’s a very exciting and humoristic story. Anyway the story takes a very fast turn and Sirius turns out to be Harry’s godfather. He was a very good friend of Harry’s parents when they were alive. He was locked in Azkaban for a crime that he hadn’t comitted. It was Peter Pettigrew, also known as Ron’s rat Scrabbers, who had submitted the crime. Sirius managed to keep his sense at Azkaban only by the thought of him knowing himself being innocent. This was not a happy thought so the Dementors couldn’t suck it out of him. Sirius could also transform into an animagus and somehow he managed to get out of Azkaban.
The story takes place at Hogwarts, a wizard school. It’s an old castle with a very beautiful landscape surrounding it. There are many weird and mostly unusual creatures in the book and Rowling really has got a very creative fantasy.
I think it was a very good book, an exciting and humoristic story that gave me many laughs. The author is marvellous at story telling and these are books for so well young people as old people. So...
