Mathew Clue sat down on the dark green and very shabby seats at Cindy’s bar. His brown eyes looked around the room, watching the guests. There were Stupid Joe, the pickpocket, known in London’s criminal circles to always been caught red-handed, and James Bowler, the pusher, who always became injured. They were the elite of unsuccessful thieves. Mathew sighed deeply. He was not one of them, because he had just done the perfect crime.

Mathew called for a double Irish coffee and leaned towards the seat. Cindy the waiter came with his Irish coffee and put it at the black table. She looked suspiciously at him.
“Got money?” She asked with a strain smile. No wonder that she was suspicious, Mathew was well-known at Cindy’s, to always be without money.
“Yes,” Mathew answered smoothly. “You’re talking to the one who robbed the City Jeweller earlier this morning!”
“Oh,” said Cindy, “I’m really sorry to say this but I’ve heard that “horrible Hanson” was going to empty the City Jeweller today. Hanson won’t be happy to hear this.”
“There’s nothing to worry about,” said Mathew, sipping at his coffee, “He can’t take “my” plunder!”

After a nice boasting-time with his friends, Mathew starts walking home. He walks through the Buckingham Palace Garden and just when he finger with his hand at the money, he hear cries from the forest at his left. He walks towards the sound, his hand ready on the gun in his pocket, running the last few steps and saw a… woman, crying on a bench. Mathew stared at her. Her chestnut-brown hair was glittering like gold in the sinking sun and her sky-blue dress… yes, she was beautiful. He found no other words for it… He was in love.

“Hmm… doyouwantanyhelp?” The words came from Mathew’s mouth like frogs.
The person at the bench lifted her eyes and looked at him, black tears running down her cheeks. Mathew sat down at the bench beside her and said with his most compassionated voice:
“What concerns you…hmm… What’s your name?” Hi could feel his heart beating hardly inside his thorax. His brain was overheated. Who was she? Where had he seen her before?
“My name is Jillian, but my friends just call me Jill.” She was quite silence for a moment, Mathew could only hear her weeping. Then she said, suddenly with a very strong voice: “My boyfriend, or my ex-boyfriend, left me.” Then she said calmly: “Yes, I want your help. Could you follow me home, please?”

They were walking slowly down the shopping street in central London, close to the place where the City Jeweller had his main office. Mathew glanced furtively at Jill; he was captivated by her beauty, her eyes glistened in the red sunset and her dark hair billowed like waves on her shoulders. Mathew was just up to say that he loved her when she stopped and panted.
“That evil thief! How dare he?” Jill almost screamed. Mathew followed her gaze, and in the adorned display window to “Excellent” he saw a gorgeous ring lying on a red pillow. “He stole that ring from me” she said, and began to cry again. Mathew thought for a while, and decided that she was worth it. He moved his hand to the stolen money and weighed it. “It would be enough,” he thought. Then he turned Jill round so her eyes were looking directly at him and said:
“Hey, don’t cry,” He said.” Don’t think about him. I’ll buy that ring for you, and then you’ll forget him. Okay?” Mathew didn’t wait for an answer. He opened the shop door and stepped inside. Then he told the shop assistant that he wanted to buy the ring in the display window. The ring wasn’t cheap. It did actually cost Mathew all his money. But she was worth it! Absolutely!

The very next day, Mathew walks, all alone, down the shopping street. When he passed “Excellent” he gave the display window a brief glance. And what? He looked once more. There was the ring, at the same red pillow. Mathew rushed inside the shop, and asked the woman behind the desk:
“Were did you get that ring from?” He pointed at the gorgeous ring in...
