The author Daniel Defoe was born in London in 1660 and was the son of a butcher named James Foe. His parents were active in church and wanted their son to become a priest.
In his young years he worked with a lot of things. He was a businessman and he also worked for an export company. But he quit it and started to work with socks instead. When he went bankrupt he changed his last name to Defoe and started to write when he was about 35 years old. At first he wrote in newspapers and often about political subjects that also made him sit in jail several times.
Other things he wrote about were that girls had right for education, mental care and building roads. He was a very popular writer. His first book “An essay upon projects” that he realised in 1697 was about his thoughts, and that everyone could improve as a human by choosing the right way.
After that book he wrote “the shortest way with dissenters”. The book was about religions and he was put into jail for 6 moths because of the book. But he became very popular and people thought he had skills.
In 1684 he married a girl named Mary Tuffley

Daniel Defoe practical spend most of his life writing and working as a editor for a newspaper called “the Review” His biggest breakthrough was in 1722 when he was finished with the book “the life and strange surprising adventures of Robinson Crouse, of York 1-3” the book took 3 years to write and it became and still are one of the most famous books on earth. It’s about a man that lives 28 years on a dessert island in the Caribbean Sea. On the island the man gets to learn everything from scratch, like how to build a hut, do his own tools and tame animals.

Daniel Defoe wanted that the book would sound as real as possible, and he often described thing in detail when he wrote. The man that had influence him to write the book was a man named Alexander Selkirk that after a fight with his captain on their boat by “free will” was landed on a dessert island 500 km outside Chillies coast, Alexander lived there for 4-5 years and managed to survive by mediation, his creative side and by reading the bible before he got rescued.

Other books that Daniel Defoe has written are:
The trueborn Englishman
Colonel Jack
Roxanna
The complete English Tradesman
Moll Flanders
The shortest way with dissenters
Hymn to the Pillory

I think that Daniel Defoe was a very political man and his book seams to be a little bit of more fact-books then novels and stuff like that, he often writes around one subject, like the book about religions, Robinson Crouse, how to live in the society when he lived. I don’t know much about the politics in England in the 1600th but ...
