Book review HT 2014 Av Sofia Larson I have read the book Gossip Girl for the past few months, a book written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The book is a typical love novel with a lots of drama. It is a kind o teenage literature.

This book is about the teenagers on the New York City´s Upper East Side. They live in a world of luxury with unlimited access to money, alcohol, sex and drugs. Upper East side is a place where adults behave like teenagers and the other way around, lying to eachother, keeping secrets and spreading gossip all with an outward sign of a magnificent wealth.

Serena van der Woodsen, everybodys favourite girl, has recently returned from boarding school in England, Connecticut. She has this group of friends with rich, spoiled and superficial girls and boys. It is Blair, Serena´s best friend who is extremely jealous at Serena, Chuck Bass the naughty boy, Kati Farkas and Isabel Coates the two gossip girls and Blair´s best friends and last but not least Nate Archibald, known for being super good looking and really kind. Nate is the boy Serena lost her virginity to, and now he is Blair´s boyfriend.

When Serena returned she was anticipating that everything was going to be the way it was before she left. She was expecting Blair and her to be as close as they were, doing everything together and the group to always be gather like they used to. But this year takes a whole new trip. After seeing her college advisor and looking for extracuriculars, a lot of new exciting stuff happen in Serena´s life. She is starting a moviemaking project and meets alots of new interesting people, maybe someone she likes a little bit extra.

Serena and Blair are the opposites to eachother, despite that, they have been best friends since kindergarten. Serena is always kind, honest and sees the best in people. She is wild an crazy and out of control and she likes to party a little bit to much. Blair Waldorf is like the queen B, with her long brown hair and dark eyes. She is always in the shadow of Serena who she is so jealous of that she could almost do anything to ruin her. Blair does not like to show it but she is very insecure. It is like she always have to be confirmed by other people to feel valued. Blair likes attention and fashion, she has better taste in clothes than anyone and her mother ownes a famous fashion brand. Blair likes to control everything and she is even controlling her friends, they are like her henchmen. Blair is very ambitious, she has extra curiculars every single day, and of course she is one of the most highperformance students at Constance.

Am I the only one who wondering, what it feels like when everyone knows who you are and you are always talked about, well Serena van der Woodsen knows everything about that. She is that type of girl every boy wish for and every girl want to be, fabulous, elegant, tall, perfect skinny legs, gorgeous hair, essential skin and an absolutely stunning face.When Serena smiles it is like she has been practising to smile her entire life.

First you would belive that Nate Archibald is some dandy type considering his look, but then you find out that he is one of the most honest and kind guy you will ever hear about in Gossip girl. Nate is together with Blair but it is something with Serena van der Woodsen that Nate just can not avoid.

I really do believe that the author has succed when she is describing her characters. All her characters are very special and they all have different types of personalities. I can really see them for myself although they are just described by words. The main character Serena van der Woodsen is my favourite. She is a very strong person who knows who she is and were she belong. There is always alots of rumors spread about Serena, but from what I see, she does not care about them because she knows the truth and that is all that matters.

None of the characters actually changes during the book. Blair has her ups and downs but she does not change. I believe the people will change futher on in the book series.

The book is relatively simple. The language is not complicated at allt but it is very focused on teenagers. It is a causal language with some unrecognizable and difficult words here and there. The size of the text can be read bye anyone. It is just that the book can be confusing sometimes because it jumps between different people. The book contains no strong or sensitive words and not mutch repeats which is great, I think.

In this case, which is very unusual I do not think that the author has a special message with the book, because the book is a part of a book series. If you need to point out something I would say that the author wants to tell that although you have eveyrthing you wished for in your life it does not mean that you are happy. I also think she wants to tell that you should be yourself, and not care about what other people will think of you, because you will always be judged, no matter what you do. There will always be people who do not like you very much anyway ,so why pretend to be someone you are not. Be you that is the best you can be.

I absolutely think this book is worth reading, but only if you are a teenage girl who are into , fashion, teenage problems, alots of love, conflicts and most of all gossips but if you are not that, you would probably see the book as really boring and not defendant at all. Adults would probably think that this book is bad because it is not really a real story behind, like nothing real.
