St. Andrews
St. Andrews is one of the most famous and oldest golf links.
The Old course was built around 1400.AD and the old course is called for “the home of golf”. In Scotland, there is a town; St. Andrews and it’s in this town the golf links: St. Andrews is situated.
Today, the golf is a big part of St. Andrews (the town) economy.
It is in St. Andrews, all the rules has been maid.

It has happened many things through the years on St. Andrews.
In the middle ages, the golf was becoming very popular, this made King James II of Scotland to ban the golf 1457. Why did he ban the golf, it was because he thought that the golf was distracting the young men from to be a good soldier.
1502 did King James IV stop the ban of the golf and became a golfer himself.
In 1764 did the Old Course consist of 22 holes. The golfers decided to do the Old course to just 18holes, because the other was to short.
Today, every Golf course/ link is 18 holes, because of that law.
On the 19th century, golf was very popular and it was so much people on the courses, so they had to find a solution. The solution was to do double greens.
R&A was the new name of the golf club and they changed it in 1754. The new course was built by R&A 1895.
It is this club who runs the Open Championship.
They build the Jubilee Course in 1897 and the Eden course in 1914.
Today The St. Andrews got 6 different courses: The Old course, The Jubilee course, The New course, The Eden Course, The Strathtyrum course and The Balgrove course. They are Building their seventh golf course. They had over 300 bunkers on the golf courses in St. Andrews. A bunker is like hole with a lot of sand, that’s why a other name for bunker is sand bunker.



Golf is a sport when you want your golf ball to get into the hole as so few hits as possible. When you start with golf you will have a real hard time. You will miss the ball and when you hit the ball, the ball is going at the wrong way.



The close game to the hole is what every golfer has problem with.
The putting you will need a lot of practice on and chipping and pitching to!

This is the golf clubs you are playing with:


• Driver: The driver is good to use when you want you ball to get far, but it’s nothing to use when you are a beginner, because one little miss and the ball will go very wrong.

• Irons: The Irons are a big pack of clubs, there is different numbers on the irons, the lowest number is 3 and it continues up to 9. if you use a high number of the irons, the ball will go not so far but high. If you use a low number of the irons, the ball will go low but far.

• Fairway wood: The fairway woods are like small drivers, but they don’t go that far as a driver but longer then the irons.

• Wedge: It has different types of the wedges. You can have a sand wedge, who is good to use in a bunker, pitch wedge is good to use for pitching. If you are not a beginner, you maybe want to get another wedge like a lob wedge. All the wedges are very good to go high and not far with.
