She started to run.
‘’Oh crap, I’m going to be late again’’ she thought. ‘’Mrs Apleburry is always on me, giving me earlaps and complaining. I’m sick of it. Got to hurry up’’.
The school was only 200 yards away, but she was already 7 minutes late. And of course, every time she came too late, she blamed the school bus.
‘’Strange little girl’’, mrs Apleburry always said. ‘’Everyone else in the class who takes the school bus, always gets in time to school.’’ And Jennifer got detention, at least twice a week. But she at least had good grades. Well, in PE at any rate. She was a runner and she was in the gymnastics team too. Races every weekend and when the boys needed one to fill up the football team, Jennifer was there to help and score goals.
She sneaked into the school, open her class door and..
‘’Ms Winkies! Late again I see?’’ mrs Apleburry complained.
‘’I’m sorry mrs Apleburry.’’
‘’What’s the reason today then? And please, spare us the school bus story today.’’ Some kids started to laugh.
‘’My brother felled at the stairs and no one else than me was home to help him. I had to wait until my parents to come home and when they did, they drove him to the hospital.’’
‘’I’m.. how is he?’’ mrs Apleburry faltered.
‘’Oh I don’t know. I hadn’t time to stay and check, I had to run all the way here so I didn’t have detention.’’
Jennifer’s best friend, Aaron, started to laugh and Jennifer hushed quite to him and started to giggle. Mrs Apleburry looked sad first, but when she realised that Jennifer was only telling a lie, she plucked up courage.
‘’Ms Winkies, see you at detention after school, one hour. And mr Smith can keep you company.’’ Aaron laughed when he heard mrs Apleburry giving Jennifer detention, but stopped when he heard his name.
‘’I’m sorry, but did I hear you correct? I haven’t done anything wrong,’’ he exclaimed.
‘’Wasn’t it you I heard laugh at me?’’ said she and looked strict at him.
‘’Yes, but..’’
‘’No but here mr. You and ms Winkies will have one hours detention after school today.’’
‘’But we have a football match after school!’’ they both burst out.
‘’Well, you both should have thought about that earlier. Now it’s too late. Please turn up page 156 in your English book. Mr Wakefield can start reading about Lisa and John.’’ Jennifer and Aaron looked at each other and thought;
‘’Oh my God, what have I done?’’ Tonight was their most important match ever, they was meeting The Tigers. They had won every single match so thus far and had to loose if The Yankees was suppose to have any chance to move forward in the score list. And then Jennifer and Aaron wouldn’t even be there…

Later when school finished.
‘’Hey Aaron! Wait for me!’’ Aarons friend Thomas runes up to him. ‘’Are you ready for the game tonight?’’
‘’Uhm.. yeah. About that.. I can’t come. I have detention.’’
‘’You got to be kidding with me! What? Why?’’
‘’It was at mrs Apleburrys class earlier.. Jennifer was to late as usual..’’
‘’Say no more my friend,’’ Thomas interrupted. ‘’When it is about Jennifer, I forgive you. I know how you guys feel about each other. To bad just that we lost the best players in the team when we’re playing our most important game ever. But what can we do about it?’’ Thomas blinked to him. ‘’See you tomorrow, and good luck!’’ he shouted and ran away.
Aaron was glad to have Thomas as a friend. He always forgave him for everything and understood stuff that no one else did. He used to play in the football team earlier, but after a foot damage, he’s doctor didn’t aloud him to do it anymore. But he was always with them in their practices and matches, cheering on them. But that thing about Jennifer, that they felt things for each other? What was that all about?
Yeah sure, he cared about here and liked to hang out with her, but just as a friend. Or had Thomas just realized something that hasn’t got clear to him self yet?

At the same time Jennifer was hanging out in her locker when Tyra came up to her.
‘’Hey you! I heard about the detention. What happened?’’
‘’Too late as usual,’’ said Jennifer and sighed.
‘’You’re a mess girl, do you know that?’’ Tyra started to laugh.
‘’But it’s more to tell. I have a really important match to play tonight and now I have detention.’’
‘’Yeah, yeah, you’ll get over it.’’ Tyra waved aside her story and started to tell Jennifer about her weekend. Tyra had never been interested in football or in anything of Jennifer’s interests, but still, they we’re best friends. Tyra was fun to hang out with, popular, beautiful and always had something going on. And somehow, she always knew what to do and say to boys. Never embarrassed her self, just kept her head cool.
‘’..and then he kissed me,’’ she finished.
‘’Oh lovely. Are you going to meet each other again?’’
‘’Huh? No, don’t think so. But you know that boy in school.. What’s he’s name again?’’
‘’What does he looks like?’’
‘’You know.. Tall, long, dark. Something on T. And he’s friend with your stupid boyfriend, Aaron.’’
‘’You must mean Thomas. But Tyra, me and Aaron are not a couple, we’re just good friends.’’
‘’Yea yeah, if you say so. But back to me again. That guy, Thomas, I would love to meet him. He’s beautiful and seems nice. Can you introduce me to him?’’
‘‘I don’t think you would need it, but sure. I have detention with Aaron, so I can talk about us four hanging out later?’’
‘’Nice, thanks a lot, darling. Wait! Detention with Aaron?!’’ she shouted.
‘’Yeah, he got it too,’’ Jennifer said simply.
‘’Are you kidding me? Why didn’t you tell me that earlier?’’
‘’You didn’t care?’’
‘’But now I do! Tell me everything!’’
Jennifer started telling her about her being to late and that she made up a story for mrs Apleburry. For the first time in her and Tyras friendship, she didn’t interrupted a single time.
‘’..and then he got detention too,’’ she finished.
‘’That’s beautiful. What a gentleman!’’ she said impressed.
‘’Gentleman? Well, I don’t know about that. All he did was laugh?’’
‘’Details, details. Well, I’ve got to run now. See ya’ later honey and good luck with Aaron!’’ she shouted and ran away laughing.
‘’What was that about?’’ Jennifer turned around to see who spoken to her and faced Aaron.
‘’Huh? What?’’ Her face blushed up.
‘’Tyra, she shouted something like; good luck with Aaron?’’
‘’Uhm, yeah. About that.. Uhm.. In detention! She meant.. good luck in detention. And you’re having it with me. So, good luck with Aaron, in detention.. you know.’’ Jennifer looked at him and hoped that he would be so easily to get that he fell for this.
‘’Yeah. To bad we’re missing our game though.’’ Said he and smiled. ‘’I was really looking forward to kick there asses!’’
Jennifer started to laugh and thought : ‘’oh my God, he’s so cute! No! What’s the matter with me? This is all Tyras fault. Now I can’t get my head of him.’’



‘’She’s a beauty, that’s for sure. Wonder what will happen in detention later? Wait! What’s the matter with me? Jennifer is my best friend! I can’t have this thoughts about here. This is all Thomas fault,’’ thought Aaron.
‘’Uhm, Aaron? Aaron? Are you coming?’’ said Jennifer and waved her hand in front of his face.
‘’Huh? What?’’ Aaron woke up of his dreams and stared at Jennifer.
‘’Are you coming?’’ she repeated her self again.
‘’To what?’’ he couldn’t take his mind and neither his eyes from her beautiful eyes.
‘’Detention? Are you coming or not?’’
‘’Yeah, sure.’’ Jennifer started walk fast and pushed her books tight to her chest. Aaron reacted slow and when he saw Jennifer walk away fast he ran after.

‘’Precisely in time ms Winkies and mr Smith,’’ said mrs Apleburry. ‘’You can take any free seat in here and I’ll be coming back every 15th minute.’’ She turned around and walked to the door. Just when she was going to open the door, she turned around and said; and no talking. She closed the door after her and went out in the holly to the teacher’s room.

Aaron and Jennifer took their places, right next to each other and started to work with their English lesson.
‘’Wonder how their playing right now..’’ said Aaron and sighed.
‘’Yeah. Ben is probably scoring my goal right now,’’ said Jennifer and sighed too,
‘’And Mark is probably taking mine to.’’
They sat quite for a while. Drew some lines in their pad and sat tilting one''''s chair.
After a while came mrs Apleburry in again to check how they where working. They both sat with their backs to her and hoods over their heads, looking down in their papers. She closed to door after her.
‘’Wait a minute!’’ said Jennifer. ‘’Did you see that?’’
‘’Saw what?’’ said Aaron and sighed once again.
‘’Mrs Apleburry didn’t care to look how we were, as long as we just sat quite working.’’
‘’Yeah so?’’
‘’Then it doesn’t even matter if it us sitting here stupid!’’
‘’Yeah! You’re right!’’
‘’So we can take off and play our match!’’
‘’Yeah! Smart! But wait, who are going to fill our places? We can’t just leave, somebody must sit here pretending being us.’’
‘’I think I know who could help us,’’ said Jennifer, picked up her cell and blinked to him.

10 minutes later they heard someone knocking on the window and Jennifer opened it.
‘’Hey guys!’’ shouted Tyra. ‘’I’m sorry I took so long, but I came as fast as I could.’’
‘’Yeah me too,’’ said Thomas and came up behind Tyra.
‘’It’s alright. But you’ll have to get in here fast, in five minutes mrs Apleburry will come again,’’ said Aaron. Jennifer nodded.
They climbed into the window and took Jennifers and Aarons hoods on them.
‘’Thank you so much guys’’, said Aaron and jumped out of the window.
‘’Yeah, we owe you some’’, said Jennifer and jumped out right after.
‘’No problem man’’, shouted Thomas after and turned around to Tyra. ‘’So.. How are you doing?’’ he smiled and Tyra started to giggle. At the same time came mrs Apleburry into the door.
‘’No talking I said! And close that window!’’ she shouted and closed the door again. Thomas and Tyra started to laugh, quietly, and pretended to work while they whispered to each other.

At the same time Jennifer and Aaron ran to their lockers in the locker room.
‘’Change fast and I’ll meet you outside you locker room,’’ shouted Aaron and ran to his locker room to change clothes. Jennifer changed into her football clothes and ran out of the room where Aaron was waiting on her.
When they came to the football court, their team was down with 2 points. Tigers had taken the lead and the scores were now 3-1 in second period, with only 15 minutes left in the match. When their coach saw them running, he called in a time out.
‘’Okey, everybody. Gather around me, gather around me,’’ shouted he.
‘’Coach, what are we going to do? They’re killing us!’’
‘’No, no. It’s all right no. You guys have played your best, but Jennifer and Aaron are here now to help you.’’
When everybody heard that, they cheered and Jennifer and Aaron took a step forward and Aaron screamed; ‘’come on guys! Let’s show them what we’re made of, let’s play their socks of!’’ And everyone cheered and ran out on the court. When the whistle howled, Aaron took the ball, Jennifer started to run over the court. He passed to her, got the ball back and passed to Ben who came running next to him. Ben ran forward, passed back to Aaron, Jennifer took the place in front of the goal, Aaron passed and.. Jennifer scored! 3-2!
The whole crowd started cheering and shouted; Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer! She ran around the court with her team members after her and when she stopped, they all jumped up at her. Congratulated her and slap thumped her back. When the whistle howled again, The Tigers took the ball and dribbled all the way down to The Yankees goal. The Tigers best player Andy, shot the ball to the goal and.. The Yankees goal keepers, Howard, took the ball and threw it to Ben who passed it to Jennifer! The whole team of the Tigers where down on the Yankees side of court and Aaron stood free at the other side of the court. Jennifer passed him and he scored a goal! The whole crowd started cheering and screamed; Aaron, Aaron, Aaron! 3-3!

Now it was only 2 minutes left in the game. They took their places again and when the whistle howled once again, the Tigers took the ball and ran to the other side of court. Jennifer had the ball, dribbled by some of the Tigers, but couldn’t score. There was at least two Tigers, blocking her way. She looked after Aaron and saw two Tigers on him to. Ben wasn’t to think of, he was down at the other side of the court with their keeper. A little kid, called Todd, a bad shooter but the best runner in the team, ran up to her other side. He was free and started to scream; pass me, pass me! I’m free! Jennifer saw no other way than passing little Todd, her own way was blocked and it was only 15 seconds left! She dribbled away from one of the Tigers, Todd ran further up and.. she passed him. Jennifer closed her eyes and hoped for the best. Todd took the ball and in some manage, dribbled by on of the Tigers, 9 seconds left, placed the ball in front of his feet, 6 seconds left, bended his knees, 5 seconds left, gathered power and courage, 3 seconds left, saw some Tigers come running, shoot on the ball, 2 seconds left, the goal keeper threw him self after the ball, 1 second left and.. HE SCORES! The whole crowd started screaming, cheering, dancing, the whole crowd was in ecstasy. When Jennifer heard the cheering, she slowly opened her eyes and saw the ball in the goal! Todd had made his first goal in his whole football life! Aaron came running to her, stopped to hug Todd who has never been this happy and the team came running out on the court. They all gathered around Todd, lifted him up and jumping up side down. Jennifer ran to Aaron and gave him a hug.
‘’My God! We won! We won! Can you believe it?’’ scream Jennifer.
‘’I know! It’s greats. Now it’s final for us!’’ Aaron had never been this happy before. He hugged Jennifer harder and.. kissed her. He just kissed her, slowly. Jennifer responded and kissed him back. They stood on the court when the rain started falling, kissing each other. When the rest of the team saw them, they started laughing and ran to the lockers room to celebrate.
Aaron slowly took one step backward and whispered into her ear; ‘’we still have detention.’’
Jennifer opened her eyes, took a look at the clock, and woke up from her wonderful love feeling of kissing. The crowd was gone, and so the Tigers, and the Yankees. Aaron grabbed her hand and started running back to the school. When they where just out side the classroom window, mrs Apleburry opened the door.
Tyra sat kissing Thomas and Jennifer hanged with the half body outside the window.
‘’What in the whole world is going on here?’’ shouted mrs Apleburry.
Tyra stopped kissing Thomas, turned around in fear meanwhile Thomas helped Jennifer and Aaron into the window.
Mrs Apleburry stared at the four of them and then at Jennifers and Aarons clothes. They still wear their dirty football clothes and shoes.
‘’I want an explanation, and I want it now!’’
Tyra and Thomas starred at the floor and Aaron looked depressed at Jennifer.
Jennifer started telling the whole story, about them not wanting to get detention when they had their most important match to play and about Tyra and Thomas switching their place. When she was finished, she looked down in the floor and felt Aaron hand in hers.
‘’You four, all of you, have detention the rest of this week and the next one to! And if one of you so tries to sneak out of this detentions, so help me God, you will all have detention for at least the rest of your school time.’’ Screamed she and slammed the door when she left the room.
‘’I’m.. so sorry for all this,’’ said Jennifer and looked up.
‘’Yeah, me too,’’ said Aaron.
‘’Are you kidding me? This was so fun!’’ said Thomas, all bright and shiny.
