”Dead Poets Society”

§John Keating is not an ordinary English professor and when Todd Anderson and his friends start at Welton Academy, John tells them to make there live extraordinary. He is also their inspiration to start the “Dead Poets Society”, a club were the involved members reads poetry and talk about life. The student’s parents think their sons are wasting their life and they tries to stop it, but that get terrible consequences.

§This book has many main characters and here I present the most important ones.

Neil Perry
Neil, who the most of the book is about, is very living and he tries without his fathers’ permission to start in a drama club. He has a very big respect for his father but sometimes he would like to tell him to stop argue about everything.

Todd Anderson
I think Todd is a very shy person and his greatest fear is to read in front of a public. In the end he manages to win over his fear whit a poem he wrote by himself.

Knox Overstreet
Knox is a normal person but he has one, for him, big problem. He is deadly in love whit a girl called Chris but she has already a boyfriend called Chet and he does everything to protect his girlfriend.

Charlie Dalton
He is the tough guy and he does not care about others very much. He calls himself Nuwanda and thinks nothing is impossible.

John Keating
John is the English professor on the school. He is the one who force the students to do something whit their lives. He was also the first to start The Dead Poets Society.

In the book they solve the problem by giving Mr Keating the sack.

§Beside the main conflict it is a minor conflict going on. It is about Knox trying to get the girl Chris. He does everything to get her and finally they get together.

§I do not know when it is written or where the novel is set. I think it is in an old English school sometimes around 1940. This might affect the story. At that time people were more conservative and did not like changes. This book is about changing’s and nowadays would not be a shame to read poetry.

§The author’s purpose of writing this novel might be that he once was like these students, young and afraid. Whit the book he tries to tell teenagers all over the world to break up and do what they want to do whit their lives.

§The title Dead Poets Society explains that the book is about poetry and that ...
