He has done it again. John Grisham, one of the greatest thriller writers in the world has added another big hit to his record. The Pelican Brief is a great book if you like thrillers by the author of books like “The firm”, “The Client”, ”The Rainmaker” among other.

The plot of the book is that of a young woman called Darby Shaw. She is a beautiful law student at Tulane law school in New Orleans, among the top five of her class and very dedicated to her work. She can sit for ours reading about cases that they are taking up in class. This is and the fact that she is intelligent in so many other ways will prove vital to her survival. During the book she will have to learn how to avoid killer and secret agents to live to see another day. In the end she has got a lot more skin on her nose then in the beginning.

When two supreme justices get assassinated she writes a brief, The Pelican Brief. The brief is about whom might have killed them. This starts an avalanche of events starting with the killing of her lover and law professor, Thomas Callahan. She is now on the run as she was suppose to be in the car whit him when it exploded. Hunting her is an international assassin and terrorist called “Khamel”. Who killed the justices and is now contracted to kill her as well. She gets some help from the FBI where Callahans old friend from law school works. When he to gets assassinated and Khamel impersonates him to get to Darby she gets really scared and runs for her life. She decides to go to the press with what she knows and contacts Gray Grantham at the Washington post to tell her story. Chased by villains, the FBI and the CIA they both sets out to get real evidence of the brief so that they can go public with it. It is a race against time and people to get the story printed before they manage to kill Darby ore another newspaper gets hold of the story. The president also has a stake in this as he has taken campaign funding from the man who is behind the killings and is desperately trying to stop the investigation.

It is not strange that Grisham is seen as one of the giants of the thriller genre. He entices you in a web of legal intrigue and mind-blowing suspense. He almost make you see the characters and you wish you could tell them “to get out of there or they will get killed”. This is the work of a great writer who deserves all the credit he gets. His language is full of good but some times hard language to describe his characters and places. You get a feeling that he has done a lot of research for the book. His novels are always centered on politics and law so it seems that he knows a lot about the subject. He is not afraid to go out on a limb to write about corruption of all sorts in the political system of the US.

I think that it is a good book to read as you get a detailed view of the American legal system as well as great suspense. It can keep you up a night, as you just can´t seem to...
