The Baby-sitter

Characters: Jenny (chief character), Laura (Jenny’s best friend), Chuck (Jenny’s boyfriend), The Hagens (the couple she was baby-sitting for)

Short review: The book is about a girl called Jenny who lives in a town called Edgetown. A few was before Christmas Jenny decides to get a job as a baby-sitter for a couple called the Hagens. She starts to baby-sit for the Hagens and every thing seems to be just fine until she discovers that she is not alone in the house. Someone is on her and this person is trying to scare her to death by doing awful things to her like making weird noises on the phone-line. Jenny is trying to convince her self that none of these strange things going on around her is true, its all her imagination doing the sounds on the door and sending terrifying images to her head. Later on Jenny realize that she is not crazy, she actually is hearing those sounds and seeing those images. By that time Jenny is starting really to regret that she even took the job as a baby-sitter, the smallest thing can almost scare her to death in that house, like a hungry cat pushing her feet and making odd noises like a sign for I am hungry. Jenny is going through all this just because of some few Christmas presents for her friends and for her family, she is not giving up this time because she is tired and sick of running and changing things for the smallest thing that bothers her. One of the baby-sitting holydays Jenny makes a big mistake that could cost her hers life, by letting somebody in the house with out permission from the Hagens. If you thought that was scary, wait till you read the book and what goes on there on.

About the chief character: It’s about a teenage girl called Jenny who has a very wild and scary imagination, she is also very unsecured about some few stuff in her life. Jenny’s imagination always makes a chicken out of a feather, always trying to make things much more bigger then they really are. She don’t know who to trust and who to suspect after what she had seen, all she is trying to do is to find out who is making those phone-calls and who is always outside that big old house. Weird enough her strange imagination helps her to be alert all the time for the smallest things, but also because of her imagination she almost get scared to death.

Environment: Its all happening in London, a place called the Edgedown , it didn’t say in the book where it was taking place but I figured it out by looking at the way they were talking without other with. Other places which often was written about in the book was her school and home.

Writer: R.L Stine

Telling technology: The writer R.L Stine did a great job with this book by making it so understandable and so easy-read. The book wasn’t to thick to read is was exactly like a book should be so you don’t through it away in the middle of the book, instead keeping on reading and is very curios about what’s going to happen in the next chapter. I liked the book so much that I read it in 2 days, I felt like I couldn’t put away until I am finished reading the whole book. I really appreciated the book and I am going to borrow the baby-sitter 2 from the library, there is even baby-sitter 3 and 4 so I am looking forward to read them all. This is not of my business but I really think you should read them to, you will get a whole knew experience about horror books.
