In 1857 Clemens wanted to make a dream come true, he became a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi river[1]. This source of inspiration played an importaint role in his well known book, Huckleberry Finn. As a matter of
fact most of his writing is based on the impresions he got from traveling.
Clemens produced lots of books. "Tom Sawyer, "Life on Mississippi" and
"Connecticut Yankee" is three of them. But still "Huckleberry Finn" is the
most famous one and at the same time the fifth most challanged book of the 1990s according to the American Library Association. This piece of work is one of the most famous books ever, Earnest Hemmingway once wrote that :
"All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called
Huckleberry Finn....All American writing comes from that. There was nothing
before. There has been nothing as good since."
Clemens spent his whole life writing. It was an importaint part of his
life. He started when he was a child and just kept on doing that throughout his life. Exept for the steamboat job his task in life was to make up stories. He never had an "ordinary" job.
Clemens has lived in a number of houses. He started of in a house located
in Missouri. When he was four years old his family moved Hannibal. The town of St. Louis is was in the range of 80 miles. This town was very quiet and dusty and the Mississippi river ran nearby. The town was surrounded by forest and of cause this is mengened in one of his books, Huckleberry
Finn(!). One of Clemen´s most famous houses is the "Mark Twain house". In order to be near his publisher, Elisha Bliss, whose American Publishing
Company was located in Connecticut´s capital he moved to Hatford in 1871. The house was located in the western part of the town on Forest street. Here his wife gave birth to their daughter Susy in 1872 giving their son Langdon a sister. In 1873 they were able to finance a house makeover. They hired a New York architect called Edward Tuckerman Potter to design the house and in 1874 it was finnished. Today the house is open for the public.
I´ve read a chapter from "The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn", chapter six
to be presice. I think he has a very "confy" way of writing. He tells the
story, nothing more, nothing less. The mood is relaxed and realistic, this
makes the story more understanible. While reading I got the feeling of
talking to a friend though it was a one way communication of cause. It was
easy to blieve that the story teller had been through all of the things he
said he had. To make this possible I think Clemens were compelled to use a relaxed language. Slang and a number of expresions contributed to the mood.
