The discovery of HIV and Aids in USA!
Through all these years of discovering aids we have had many theories about how and when HIV and aids developed. Some scientists believed that the virus originally came from apes, but exactly from what and from who it came from, still remains unknown.

At the fifth month of 1980 a young man came to the Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York city. He was complaining about pain all over his body, watery eyes, bad balance, crushing pain in his mouth and his bronchi and he was overtaken by weakness. He could hardly stand on his own tow feet. He had now been treaded for several months by his doctor for mysterious fever, enlarged lymph nodes, unusual rashes, diarrhoea, weight loss and coughing, without a diagnose. Later on they found bacteria called Kaposis Sarkom (KS) in his lungs. He received intensive care and medication in several months, but it was not enough. He died without a diagnose.

These symptoms became more and more popular in the hospitals and the doctors noticed that in all of the cases, the patients had another thing in common. All of them were gay, homosexual men. And the speculation began, they believed it had something to do with homosexual intercourse. That the disease was spreading during unprotected sex. During the time between 1981-1985 when similar cases grown, today’s picture of aids developed. And it seemed to be an “visible part” of the AIDS-epidemic. 1)

What kind of people are affected by HIV and Aids?
The statistics summary ( taken in 2005) tells us that it is not just homosexual that are most affected by HIV and Aids, it shows that 44% are black people, 35% white people, 19% Hispanic people and 1% other race. 20% of the men and 33% of the women got infected by injecting drugs,11% of the men and 65% of the women got infected by being exposed trough heterosexual contact and 8% are men who hade sex with men. 2)

Freddy Mercury
Freddy Mercury was the vocalist of the great rock band called “Queen”. Freddy was this famous rocker who had an amazing voice, a voice so strong and yet so soft, was his most treasured gift. A gift from god, that he used to express his feelings. Mr. Mercury was not just a famous singer as a matter of fact he was a homosexual man. Through the last years of his career and life, he kept a secret. He was hiding his illness, his Aids. No one knew about his illness not even his family and friends, maybe because he was embarrassed by his sexuality.

He began writing songs about how to say goodbye and about what his thoughts was; “Too late, my time has come, Sends shivers down my spine. Bodys aching all the time, Goodbye everybody I’ve got to go. Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth. Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows) I dont want to die, I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all-”, this was a quotation from his hit song called “Bohemian Rhapsody”. If you really listen to the lyrics, you will hear his frustration of fading away, and it makes you wan to cry. At the time this song came out to the music industry Freddy had already told his family and friends about his illness, three weeks later he told the world. A week after, his fight was over. He died on November 23rd the year 1991. In a way the rock ‘n roll died with him. 3)

What did I know before?
I probably just knew that HIV and Aids was a deadly sexually transmitted disease, and the only way to get it was through unprotected sexual intercourse. At first I thought that Aids originally came from Africa and that it was first discovered there, maybe because it is today’s most affected continent. And my ignorance made me believe that almost everything could be cured. I thought that sciences had come a very long way. But research tells me that we still have a long way to go.
When I started this essay I did not know were to begin so I googled and I had to read tons of pages and by the time I was finish with reading I remembered that Queens singer died by the cause of Aids from his gay lover. It inspired me a lot. It inspired me to know the details and backgrounds and it made me less prejudiced and more educated.

What if I had Aids
What would my life be like if I had aids? Would I be too embarrassed to tell my friends that I had unprotected sex with a stranger, even though most of them are having unprotected sex with strangers all the time. I guess their just lucky that they yet have not received a deadly sexually transmitted disease. I can only imagine how it must be to live with Aids. Imagine go through every day with crushing pain, fever, bad balance, unusual rashes and diarrhoea. Not be able to do what ever you want to when ever you want to. And even sometimes wish that you had never been born. That is sad, because you should go through life experience wonderful adventures, fall in love, get married and have babies without worrying about spreading the daises to the children during pregnancy.

Well they say that preparing for your death has five stages:
DENIAL: I am not dying, I will get well!
ANGER: “Suddenly you are not in control of your life, or death “. I am too young t...
