Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill

I decided to do some research about the great man sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill because I didn’t know much about him. I had heard his name a couple of times but I didn’t know why he was so famous. Now I know why and I hope my presentation will help all of you too.

The man who made the “V” for victory-sign famous was born in 1875 in England. In school he wasn’t a very successful pupil. Winston lacked motivation in most of the subjects except for history and in the English language where he was one of the best students, probably because he liked making speeches and was a good writer.

After finished high school Churchill tried to make it to a military academy in Sandhurst. The third time he tried he succeeded it and in 1895 he became an officer. For three years he fought in three different wars. In 1898 he left the army to try to become a member of the House of Commons but he failed. Instead he became a journalist in south Africa for the newspaper “Morning Post”.

When Winston Churchill got back, in 1900, he was elected into the House of Common where he soon got very popular because he showed a big passion and energy for the work. His career was going better and better. And in 1911 Winston was appointed as minister of the Royal Marines.
During his early career as politician Winston made a reputation of him self as courageous and skill but also hazardous. He succeeded many times, but he also failed. As consequense of this he ended his first career as minister of the Royal Marines. In 1915 Churchill was transferred to another assignment but he didn’t like it so he spent two years in a trench warfare as a regimental commander instead.

When he got back to England he couldn’t get his authority back. That’s why his career went up and down the following years. Winston went from one assignment o another but his popularity were gone, this lead to him getting thrown out from the government. It took him about two years and several tries to get back to government assignment but when he did it wasn’t with the same excitement that he had showed before. The years went by and he started to write again.

When the Second World War started he’d manage to get his popularity and his post as the Marine Minister back. Winston didn’t hide the facts that a big war was coming and in one of his speeches he said “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat…” his honesty to the people was very successful and soon he was one of the biggest and most trusted persons in the government. Because of his hard work he got a lot of power. At that time he was actually the most powerful man of England. He had decided that England was going to win the Second World War.

His target oration and his experience from the wars he had been a part of before was very useful when he made up plans of how to surprise the enemy in the best way. He showed a lot of courage even this time and made a of couple unexpected moves both with varying results.

He became Prime Minister and Minister of Defence the next year, in 1940. Probably because he was a really good speaker and didn’t have a problem with getting the audiences attention. His speeches was very powerful and still very touching and I guess that’s why the Englishmen voted for him.
Churchill was now on the top of his career. He kept his assignment for five years but lost it in 1945. Six years later he got it back but resigned after one period.
