Oliver Twist was written by Charles Dickens in the year 1837. I have red the original book from that year. The book was written with an old language wich I noticed short after starting reading it. It was some words that I could recognize directly that It doesent use so often in our time, that could be for exemple “cannot” wich we say like can’t. Otherwise it is sentences which are old and difficult words. Beside that it wasn’t so different language in this book compared to what we use today. The story takes place in 1800-centery in London. The writer has written the book in past time and as it happened yesterday. He wrote with a lot of environment descriptions and he describes the feeling of Oliver Twist very much. I can easily understand how he felt and I feel sorry for him. The genre is adventure drama and that explains why it happen things all the time.
The book contained some pictures. They weren’t painted in colour but I found it easier to follow the story with the pictures in every chapter. The book was very thick so it was a good choice to have pictures so it didn’t become boring to read.
The main character in the book is Oliver Twist who’s nine years old and doesn’t have any parents who’s taking care of him. His childhood is very tragic and the people around doesn’t treat him well. It is especially one criminal man who’s name is Sikes who using Oliver for his own purposes. Oliver must steal and robb banks to have some place to sleep and some food to eat. Before Oliver arrives London he get’s help from a man he met on his way. There are many people in the book so it was hard for me to remember all of them. They where only briefly described and Oliver met new people all the time so it’s obvious that the writer will focus on Oliver’s trip and feelings.
It’s a very dramatic book and it happened things all the time so it could be hard to follow sometimes. The book made me feel sympathy with Oliver and I can understand how hard it must be to not have parents. It seemed like Oliver experienced the hard world many people are living in, the criminal gangs and fighting for food every day to survive. It seems hard and it’s a fact that there still are a lot of kids who can not kiss their parents goodnight before sleeping in their own bed in a house together with the family. Some kids live on the treets today, fighting to survive every single day. I think that is the message Charles Dickens wants us readers to think about. It’s very important that we help the people to solve these problems and help them so they can have a normal and safe life...
