William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare is the worlds most quoted and honoured dramatiser
ever and you can say he’s England’s most famous person. William was
born the 16 April 1564 in a small village in England called Stratford-upon-
Avon. John Shakespeare and Mary Arden was his parents. He was their
first child and he had 5 brothers and sisters. When he was 18 years old he
married Anne Hathaway who was about 18 years older than him. The
exact date of the wedding is not known but it’s supposed to been in
December 1582. A year after the wedding Anne gave birth to a little girl,
who was christened Susanna the 26 of May. Two years later the twins
Hamnet and Judith were born. Both of them got christened the second
February 1585. At the age of 11 Hamnet died a mysterious death and the cause of death remains unknown, Shakespeare was devastated.

Shakespeare was a successful dramatiser, poet and actor.
Before he got famous his colleague Ben Johnson used to
say: “Shakespeare is not of an age, but for all time”, and he was right.
He wrote 37 (!) plays during his lifetime and his tragedies are the
most famous even though he wrote comedies to.

Shakespeares plays:
• Antony and Cleopatra
• Coriolanus
• A Midsummer Night´s Dream
• The Winter´s Tale

His two most famous plays are “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet”. Hamlet is based on a Nordic story called “Amled”.

Hamlet is about the prince of Denmark (Hamlet) whose father gets killed
by his uncle Claudius. When Hamlet found out that his mother now is married to Claudius he got filled with anger and vengeance. A famous monologue is when Hamlet talks to Yoriks (A character in the play) skull, its there he say probably the most famous quote ever: “To be or not to be, that’s the question…”. It ends like the most of Shakespeare’s works with that every one with a principal part dies. Romeo and Juliet are about Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, two teenagers who are hopelessly in love with each other. But their families are in a feud so they aren’t even allowed to see each other. They want to get married but they can’t get their parents permission. Juliet decides that the only way that they can get married is that she fakes her own death and then run away with Romeo without anyone knowing about it, but Romeo doesn’t get informed about this so he takes his own life because he believes that Juliet is dead. When Juliet wakes up and seeing Romeo lying dead beside her she notice her mistake and takes her life with Romeos knife. William Shakespeare dramatised his plays at “globe theatre” in London and even the court came there to watch him act.

At this time William Shakespeare became richer and richer because of his
share of the globe theatre. He bought himself one of the biggest houses in
Stratford in 1597. In 1609 Shakespeare and his company had access to
both the Globe and the Blackfriars which was an indoor theatre. He
returned to Stratford in 1611 and spent less and less time in London.
Shakespeare died the 23 April 1616. He was buried in Stratford and on his tombstone it stands:
Good friend, for Jesus´ sake forbear
To dig the dust enclosed here
Blessed be the man that spares these stones
And cursed be he that moves my bones.
There is some people who say that it isn’t Shakespeare himself who
wrote the plays and that the philosopher Francis Bacon did it instead.
There are many proofs that establish this. For example some of
Shakespeare’s plays came out several years after his death, his both
parents were illiterate and Francis Bacons name is hidden in the plays. An
other example is that just a few autographs of William Shakespeare are
found in the plays and every one of them is spelled in different ways.

Actors who need to improve their image often do some of Shakespeare’s
plays because they are very difficu...
