Elvis Presley was the first real Rock star. He stared in 33 successful movies. He is known as “The king of Rock`n roll” or just “The king” He became the white man with the black voice.

Between 1969 and 1977 he gave more than 1100 concerts. Some of Elvis most famous songs are “All shook up” “Heartbreak Hotel” “Jailhouse Rock” “Love me Tender” “You are the Devil in Disquise” and “Suspicious minds”

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on the 6 of January, 1935 in east Tupelo. His brother was still born and he grew up as an only child. His parents were poor and when Elvis was 3 years old, his father was sent to jail for forgery of a check. He and two men had changed the amount from 3 to 8 $ and cashed it in on a local bank because they were in need of money.

He’s parents were religious and Elvis sang in gospel choirs and he was told that he had talent.
In his fifth year his teacher asked him to enter a talent show. He won second place, dressed like a cowboy singing Old sheep. On his next birthday in 1946 he received a guitar instead of the bicycle he wanted. His uncle gave him lessons over the year.

When he started his sophomore he worked in the school library and at Loews state Theatre. In 1951 he received his drivers license. He tried out for the school football team. The coach cut him because he wouldn’t trim his sideburns and ducktail. On his spare time he hanged around the black section of the town.
On day he drove by Sun records and saw that he could record an album for only 2$. In 1953 he recorded his first album. It was a birthday present for his mother. He returned in 1954 to record his second album. Then Marion Kelsker heard him and thought that he should sing for Sam Philips. They made a single together with Scotty Moore and Bill Black. The three of them became very popular and stared in the radio show “Louisiana Hayride”

Elvis was, together with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins what they called “The million dollar Quartet. Elvis became at first known as “the Hillbilly Cat” becouse of his mix of Country music with blues, jazz, gospel and pop with a strong backbeat. He was making a clear path towards Rock´n roll.


Between 1958-1960, Elvis served military service and didn’t make any albums. RCA released 2 albums with “new” material from his time at Sun records. They called them: For LP fans only and A date with Elvis.

When he returned from the army he started to make movies such as: Kissing Cousins, Blues and Viva Las Vegas.

He got married to Priscilla in 1 of May 1967
They had a daugther Lisa Marie, 9 month on the day after their marriage.

In 1969 he wanted to prove that he was back. He was given the chance in the “Come back special” he played with a Swedish guitar around his neck.

In 1970 he was pronoused “One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation.”

And these gentlemen over here [referring to the other Jaycees named that year], these are the type of people who care, they''''re dedicated, and they realize that it is possible that they might be building the kingdom of heaven, it''''s not just too far fetched, from reality. I''''d like to say that I learned very early in life that ''''Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain''''t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.'''' So I keep singing a song. Goodnight. Thank you."


In 1969-1971 he started to gain weight. He was no longer the goodlooking man he ones was. He was letting his hair grow and he looked older.

In 1972 Elvis and Priscilla separated and she moved out with their daughter.


He started to do drugs to make his hektical life easier. He had got the drugs from a doctor.
Most people think that he died from an overdose. But according to his then girlfriend, that is not true. She said that his heart was twice as big on one side. It beated irregularly. His morther and brother died of the same disiase and his mother at the same age as Elvis. Many people on his mothers side of the family died in there early years. The day he died he was preparing for a concert in Portland. He lay down in his bed in Graceland to rest. He died 42 years young. The world got the message in August 16 that the King was dead.

Elvis made his last apperance in Market Square Area in Indiapolise 26 of june 1977.

Many people still thinks that Elvis is alive. They refuse to belive that he´s dead
One of the main resons is that:
"Hours after Presley''''s death was announced, a man by the name of Jon Burrows (Presley''''s traveling alias) bought a one way ticket with cash to Buenos Aires.”

Elvis has sold over 1 billion albums over the world. Only he and The Beatles have done that.
He has had 21 firstplaces in the Uk-chart and on the USA´s Billboard, 17 firstplaces.
